Countdown Jensen was sort of Dean on maximum cocky and zero caution of any kind. The show was ... okay, sort of bog standard cop/action fare, but watchable if you don't need too much other than watching JA. There are also other very attractive and well-built people to look at, too.

I don't recall any direct connection to Supernatural the show, but there are certainly similarities.
