I did not expect that to happen. I thought the crew on that show loathed JDM.

Because books.

Where did you hear that?

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Kripke got narked because JDM wasn't available when SPN needed him--they rescheduled AHBL2 twice, and due to Uma Thurman breaking her arm and delaying The Accidental Husband filming, JDM had to cancel both times. So they wound up filming JDM on set wherever he was at the time, and since Jared had a conflict, they filmed Jensen reacting to JDM, and then later CGI'd in Jared's reaction to Dad and Dean in the graveyard.

I think Kripke was frustrated at the drawn-out song and dance, during an episode that had a giant pain to film graveyard scene--they set up outside, but monsoons descended and delayed location filming for days, and when they tried to film once the rain stopped, all the "graves" were soup. So they had to regroup and film indoors, and JDM's scheduling was just an added irritant.

Then S3 and on, Kripke wrote out his own daddy issues onto John, and JDM took issue with the slant the interpretation of John took. There was no love lost between them. Kripke didn't ask, because JDM was a fan favorite, and he didn't want fans to like John. JDM was busy, and didn't need the job, and he didn't want to play John as an SOB.

And then the storyline moved on, and there really wasn't any place left to shoehorn John into late canon. But as Kripke's gone now, and the writers are apparently recycling storylines from early season, they may be rethinking John.

I've read multiple accounts from people who worked on set that JDM was horrible to work with; full of himself and hateful to people if they weren't stars or in positions of power. He seems to be friendly with the Js, and Kripke's reasons for not bringing him back may very well be about the scheduling conflicts, but I doubt anyone below the level of producer will be happy to see him back.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if you're right.

There's a SPN con in Minneapolis this weekend, and it's been confirmed that Misha was mugged last night. He's insisting on doing the photo ops people have paid for but, understandably, he doesn't feel up to doing his panel today. Visible stitches and bruises, apparently.

I don't know what our current thinking is on real person discussion, but I do know that Jared and Gen were photographed recently--posted on their twitter(s), I guess, reading Jep and Jessica Robertson's book. He and Jensen both are rumored to be friends with the second gen Duck Dynasty scion, who has not stated he shares his family's homophobic, racist, and misogynistic beliefs, but has in fact said he "stands by" his family's beliefs. So, Jared's shiny image has been tarnished, a bit, by association, since many of his fans are LBTQ, women, and POC.

Jensen has never taken a public step away from his dad's poisonous stand on abortion, but has chosen the wiser path of silence on the subject. Maybe Jared should do the same.
