Goodbye and Good Riddance 2014: so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good bye...

Every year we watch the Charlie Brown special, do the Snoopy dance, wish everybody a Merry Thanksgivukkahmas, and thank our Secret Santas in the good riddance thread. Which is this one, in case you were wondering.

Buh bye, 2014.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I think I've had chicken bones candy under a different name ... I think I'd know if I'd eaten something with that name.

In regard to the bread ... place I used to work, we had a woman who would try to impress people with her mad baking skills ... she once made bread that she'd pierced and then dripped different flavors/colors of Jell-O into. Weird. And wet. Tasted about as bad as it looked.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Apparently it's an Australian thing. But no one knows who brought it.

Oooh, mystery Fairy Bread!

I have never heard of any of these sweet things.

hip deep in pie

Chicken Bones are from a regional candy maker and are a Christmas tradition around here. But they're very divisive. Lots of people think they taste terrible, while others can't wait for them to come back every year. My BFF when I was little would get them in her stocking every year and be very excited. I have to say, I find hard candies with soft centres a little jarring, texturally.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

My grandmother used to have them at Christmas, too. The chocolate with mint and also the peanut butter ones. I never knew they were called chicken bones. Are they considered a Canadian thing? My family straddled the Detroit River and family reunions in Windsor were common when my dad was kid.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Oh, this is where I should say I got msbelle's holiday card! With bonus valentine and Hello Kitty tattoo.

Yes, me too! Muy exciting! My son ran off with the card at first and I had to chase him down for it.

I have never heard of chicken bones before. But then again I had never heard of packzi before Steph first mentioned them on the board.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

My mom and I tried to guess how to consume the chicken bones, and if we are to chew or suck them.

Chicken Bones are from a regional candy maker and are a Christmas tradition around here.

And that is one of the main reasons why I love this gift exchange. I get to learn and taste and listen and smell and wear a bit and about other places. Of course, and unfortunately, trying to create the same experience for the giftee may result in major olive oil leakage (again, I'm so sorry about it. I thought that three layers of bubble wrap will do).

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I got a holiday card too from msbelle, with a valentine and Hello Kitty tattoo inside! So cute!

I've had the non-chocolate, non-mint, non-cinnamon chicken bones. I had no idea that's what they were called, but they're good! They remind me of these, which I haven't had in decades.

Those I've had.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Hey, I got a holiday card and Valentine Hello Kitty card/tattoo today! Thanks, msbelle! You really are the nicest!
