'Underneath'

Goodbye and Good Riddance 2014: so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good bye...

Every year we watch the Charlie Brown special, do the Snoopy dance, wish everybody a Merry Thanksgivukkahmas, and thank our Secret Santas in the good riddance thread. Which is this one, in case you were wondering.

Buh bye, 2014.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Congrats Kate!

2014 was a pretty good year for us. The highlight was our trip to London and Dublin , centered around Worldcon.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I like that, -t, a Rebuilding Year.

Me too. This is my Rebuilding Year. The foundation is solid, but the house needs some DIY.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Rebuilding sounds good. The last two years have not been easy but it seems as if things are looking up. The idea of travel (actual vacations!) no longer seems like a pipe dream, so that's exciting. And other, less exciting, but necessary things are in the realm of possibility. May 2015 be a time for more responsible adulting, more quality playtime, and no more funerals.

Our wings are not tired.

May 2015 be a time for more responsible adulting, more quality playtime, and no more funerals.

Most excellent goals.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I also forgot that this thread came online, so just played catchup. Great news, Kate!

2014 was a year of frustration for me for most of it, due to the no-job situation, and also the car-crapping-out situation, which took a significant percentage of my remaining savings.

OTOH, I got to do things like stay for a week in South Carolina with my aunt and uncle, which was fabulous, and finally got to see wild alligators (from a safe distance) and in general got my sand and sea itch satisfied.

My car engine was finally rebuilt, for enough money to buy a significant used car. It's been running well, except for the alternator, which has now been replaced.

In September I went to Vermont for a week, which was also fabulous, and spent a pittance (compared to the engine rebuild) on a zipline tour and a dog-sledding day. Also in August, spent time with my aunt and uncle in the summer Catskills.

The year took an upswing when I got a job as an Uber driver. It's not what I want to do as a career, but it's bringing in enough money to pay the mortgage and keep my remaining savings in the bank. Also good is that I'm actually good at it, the hours are right for me and my self-esteem is taking an upswing. If I'm still doing it in six months, I'll be very unhappy, but at least I feel like I'm moving forward on some, any, front.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Congrats, Kate! Such exciting news.

2014 was a year of changes. Grace was decannulated and then needed emergency surgery while we were in Idaho so was airlifted to Salt Lake. While in SLC, I got to reconnect with a friend, so there was that.

I was sick this year more than I would like, with a blood clot. But I'm still here and moving so that's good.

I was selected as Teacher of the Year for my district and I moved schools so I'm in a new place doing new things feeling like a new person.

I don't know. It's been a good year and a rough year.

2015 will most likely bring a puppy to our family. I don't have a ton of resolutions except donate blood more and move more.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

2014 was a mixed bag. I wound up in the hospital, unexpectedly, but I did finally get a job.

My goals for 2015 are to stay out of the hospital and keep the job.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

Well, I had a whole long post written then I mistakenly checked the spelling of a work and lost the whole post. So I went to post it on Facebook only to discover that I hadn't friended my Seekrit Santa!

So, my going to the urgent care this morning gave me a chance to stop by the post office and pick up my package from Krampus of New Orleans.

It's Nora! and inside were some New Orleans-eriffic things! 2 ornaments, one in the shape of a fleur de lis, a candle that is Mardi Gras scented, to starkly beautiful photos of doorways with their post-Katrina makings, a bar of soap that I can't identify the scent of, a gorgeous cook book with recipies from all over LA and with wonderful artwork from students. It's just a pleasure to thumb through for that alone! and last but not least, a lovely glass goblet!

Thank you Nora!
