Jayne: Yeah, that was some pretty risky sittin' you did there. Wash: That's right, of course, 'cause they wouldn't arrest me if we got boarded, I'm just the pilot. I can always say I was flying the ship by accident.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

I know, but how the fuck do I say no without appearing like a jerk?

She's close, but not super close. She's also young. Still in her mid-20's.

edit: Argh, I should have posted this in Bitches. Not going to cross-post now.

I'm sorry, now isn't a good time for you to stay over.

"already on the kiss-cam with Karl Marx"-

You're not her family, right? This is not your problem. (I can't imagine. As much as I'm thinking about applying for asylum this week, I can't imagine going to Casa Zmayhem all "Hey, got a couch I can borrow?") But of course, I can't just crash places anyway.) "I'm so sorry, but you're a smart person, you'll figure it out." I know Gavin deBecker says "No is a complete sentence." But most people do find that a bit harsh.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Ugh, Maria, that sounds like bad news. You don't that drama and stress right now. Like who ever does.

I'm sorry, now isn't a good time for you to stay over.

I think Connie got the solution, there.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

It's too much to ask, Maria. You could offer to keep her stuff while she's looking. My usual response to impossible requests is, "I wish I could...." without giving any reasons.

Not even doing that, Ginger.

Connie's words FTW. I just hope it doesn't end a friendship.

Or if you're willing, give her a time limit. "You'd be welcome to stay this weekend to get away from it a bit but it just wouldn't work during the week"

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Talked to Mum, managed to dodge the bullet of Thanksgiving with the compromise that they'll probably visit beforehand. I'll slave away cleaning my apartment gladly rather than endure a 12 hour round trip that involves dealing with my older brother and possibly splurging money on a motel in case the tryptophan gets to me and I have to stay the night. I have to save my motel money up for Christmas, anyhow.
