I dreamt last night that I was hanging out with Benedict Cumberbatch. It was all very weird and random...like hanging out in a mall food court. Then we went back to the place where I was staying to gather my things. He gave me his email to keep in touch. And I discovered that my bras, which I was sure I had packed were all stacked on top of my suitcase. Then Plei shows up (by this time BC has disappeared) and says, "Oh yeah, they looked like ones I might be interested in, so I tried them on..."
It was a strange and random dream.

I just filed for unemployment (the state makes you wait until your severance period's over). There are two jobs that are supposed to get back to me in the next couple of weeks with a final decision, and it may take that long for my claim to process. But I figure that not filing will guarantee neither position will come through, so I filled out the forms. NC's system is surprisingly non-awful.

Okay. I think I most caught back up. I'm still packing up my classroom (file under work that is a DRAG) and I'm ready to go. But alas, I cannot yet. I" am no good at waiting.
Some authors make me want to scream. (Apologies to all people here who have published or will publish in academia; I'm sure you respect your editors or at the very least follow the instructions they give you. If so, congratulations! You are not the authors I'm talking about!)
We don't send authors the edited Word docs, because if they make changes, we can't know they tracked everything, and then we'd have to compare their version with our version line by line. So we send them a PDF.
I have an author who asked for the Word doc, and when we said no, you need to work with the PDF, emailed back with "Good news! I converted the PDF to a Word document! I will re-convert it back to a PDF before I submit it!"
