I was just reading one of those listicle thingies on how to be nice to wait staff, and the final item was "tip on the whole amount."
I had this argument recently with a Buffista on whether it was pre-tax or post that you're supposed to tip on, and while I believe the answer is pre, that doesn't mean I don't suck it up and tip on the post-tax amount. I guess it's another way of passing on cost of living?
But here's what the article (#10) was saying:
if you decide to split your bill between diners or multiple forms of payment, don’t under-tip by accident. Twenty percent refers to the entire check and not just your portion.
Does that not imply that everyone is supposed to put 20% of the total tip when the bill is split? That's news to me.
I got my flu shot randomly at my sleep appointment, and since I broke the skin when I fell down the stairs, I'm now up to date on tetanus. I should record that...Evernote here I come!
Going to vote (early) tonight and get a flu shot tomorrow.
And, so happy to hear about Strix's kitty.
I grabbed my motivation by the throat, took heed of the organizational advice to focus on a category and not a room, and threw back the curtain that hides the coat cupboard by the front door. Hubby loved coats: leather coats, puffy coats, warm coats. Two big puffy coats (one of which I didn't know existed), three fleece windbreakers, and three suede jackets later, that cupboard has room to actually move the hangers. They're all in the car ready for a trip to the thrift store--except for his favorite black suede jacket, with the cancer ribbon pins, the Warhammer 40K Terminator badge, and the Disney Nautilus pin, which is on me. I was wondering what heavier coat I needed as it got colder.
Timelies all!
Got my flu shot last month. I hope that wasn't too early in the season, because I don't want to have to get a booster shot.(I have no idea how long the shot is good for. My MIL claims her doctor said 3 months, but I'm dubious)
If your MIL is over 70 or has an impaired immune system her doctor may have told her that, though not on the basis of much good evidence.
If you don't fall into one of those categories you are good to go.

Oh HELL no! I will be tipping for what I purchased, or for a previously agreed-upon even share of a group check, not for the total bill for an entire table full of people.
Does that not imply that everyone is supposed to put 20% of the total tip when the bill is split? That's news to me.
Yeah, that's ridiculous. If each person puts in 20% of what they pay, you're good.

I think it means don't let the waitstaff get screwed over because the person you're with is cheap. Not that I know people like that or anything.
Yeah, that's ridiculous. If each person puts in 20% of what they pay, you're good.
I also think what happens is some people go "ok, I owe $13 with tax and tip and Jan is $15 so here's some cash and put the rest on Joes card" and then joe Gets the receipt and says "ok, there was $8 left in the bill and I'm tipping 20% so that's...like $10? I'm generous!" But actually Joe owed a lot more an the waitress got a $2 tip total.
