I spent an hour hacking at the shrubberies, including taking a lot off the neighbor's pomelo tree. Every fall this tree overgrows my driveway and drops huge rotting citrus onto my driveway (or my car). I will really need to hire a gardener to do this, there was a lot I couldn't reach.

Now I'm drinking a beer (!), watching episode 2 of The Roosevelts, and waiting for the Narnia Fic Exchange collection to open.

I'm being hit on by Onelio, my landladys landscaper. I feel deeply unsafe now with people crawling all over the property all week and all weekend after five years of the landlady doing nothing to upkeep the property. And my always open window.

Actually kept up an okay pace and evaded zombies twice. And got hoe just as it started to drizzle, so good run!

And I see by the time stamp of my post regarding apple tarts that they have been chilling long enough for me to try one, so that's next on the agenda. ETA: well, it's pretty tasty, but that custard is not free-standing (the recipe called for corn starch which is an abomination unto me, so I left it out. Should have compensated with...something?) so deciding to skip the crust appears to be a major error. Maybe I won't give these out after all. Or maybe if I steam them they'll be salvageable? Hm.

Jilli, to me those seem to have the downside of pants without much upside? (Downside = pull down to pee. I'm sure there's something else, but I'm not sure what...)

That's true. My great-great-grandmother would not wear them because of that.

But they're so pretty! And useful if you need to straddle something? IDK, but I stand by my "yes".

My old friend the improvised bain-marie approximation seems to have firmed up the custards, hooray!
