Natter 73: Chuck Norris only wishes he could Natter
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
That's awkward and kind of weird, JZ. I hope you find out soon (and it's not anyone you're close to!).
I also hope Ginger got her doughnut.
I had nutella and birthday cake and magical grape drink, and now I am on my couch and contemplating a nap. And also not sure what else I'm going to do with my day.
I was very disappointed that this 10k was SLOWER than my last one (by about 2 minutes!). But I'm blaming the fact that it was on trails for the most part (so rocks and gravel and such) which made it a bit more difficult. I probably felt better after this one than after the last one (where I had blisters and a sprained ankle--this time, I just have sore/tired muscles)
I'm pretty sure it's not the first two people I was thinking of, but unsure as to any of the others. And, really, if you can post at length about how many of your tribe have passed to the other side and how there's a candle in your heart and you're going to love all your friends extra-hard when next you see them and your chosen family is the most important thing to you in the universe, surely you could muster up the spoons to cough up a surname? Maybe? Just an initial?
We are down to less than a month to the ARP Silent Auction and I'm going nuts with all the last minute donations. Very happy to get them, byt why last minute?
Nature of the beast with these things. As an event planner/fundraiser organizer, I don't even think about less than a month as last minute anymore. Last minute is within 24 hours of the event for me at this point. I would get stuff for auctions/raffles AT the event that I'd have to go set up.
The mens only golf club thing is stupid.
One of my friends seems to have disappeared from the internet. She used to have a facebook account and a blog, but her facebook account and her husband's are both gone, and the blog is set to invitation-only, with a note that says to contact the blog owner if you want access, but no contact link. I tried asking a few mutual friends, and they've got no idea what's going on -- one of them said that the last post she saw before the blog was closed said that they were moving to Korea. None of us have an email address for her.
That's weird and creepy, Hil.
Oh dear, JZ -- I hope someone eventually tells you something!
And everyone else having crankymaking days: I wish you a day as nice as mine! I sat around some in the morning, saw a noon movie, walked around the Public Gardens, picked up my new sunglasses, got a massage, and had a beer with the temporary tenants and a friend of theirs.
I was reading The Night Circus, and enjoying it very much. I checked it out of the library in kindle format on a 7-day loan that I thought I would have the option to renew, but I have somehow messed that up and the loan has apparently ended.
I hear that turning off the wi-fi on your device allows you to keep stuff past the deadline, for what that's worth.

Any tips for sanity would be greatly appreciated. My mantra has been "let me get to October 11th" since the event is the day before.
Cooking for one is surprisingly satisfying. I made another calzone and have discovered that croissant dough makes an acceptable crust. As a grownup I realized that I can overload my calzone with ricotta cheese and Canadian bacon. I can also discover why overloading with ricotta is not a good idea and that I need to mix my cheeses. And I can additionally discover that there doesn't seem to be a downside to overloading on Canadian bacon.
It seemed like I could keep reading it as long as I didn't try to open another book. Curse my foolish looking up of recipes!
In this particular case, I've given in to my impatience and just bought a copy. And upped my default loan time to 14-days for the future.
Croissant stuffed with ricotta and canadian bacon sounds fabulous, Connie! I also find it liberating to cook for just myself. If it doesn't come out great, it's not like anyone but me cares and I can try again later with lessons learned.

Whereas I was just coming here to whinge about my loathing for cooking, especially for myself, and I understand why I was so skinny when I lived on my own in my 20s. Besides my youthful metabolism, that is.
Parts of this month of bachlorette life are fun. Cooking for myself is not one of those parts.
