Ah, this brave new world. On a whim, I decided to see Guardians of the Galaxy this Friday, actually in a first-run movie house! Decadence! So I got online, found the theatres it's playing in, picked the one near my house, picked the matinee, reserved near front row middle, and paid for it. One of the joys of having a weekday as my day off.

Connie, I don't want to spoil it for you, but the first scene is kind of rough, and you might have a hard time with it. And I can spoil it further for you (I can whitefont over in the movies thread) if you want to be prepared. But after the first scene, it's pretty much ridiculous fun straight through to the very end.

Yeah, give me fair warning. I never know when things are going to smack me in the head, and I want to enjoy the ridiculous fun of the rest of it.

edit: It's not like the first 15 minutes of Up, is it? Because I think that would be bad.

Okay, go over to the movies thread and I'll whitefont it.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

The first 15 minutes of Up actually ruined the whole movie for me. Well, not exactly. The fact that none of the rest of the movie redeemed those 15 minutes is actually what did it in.

Have not see GotG but definitely want to see it.

Awwww. Yeah, Tim had to pause the DVD because I was crying so hard. But I liked the rest of the movie. I don't need to ever see it again, but I liked it.

And seriously, the opening scene of GotG is like something out of Pixar. (I don't think it's gratuitously emotionally manipulative, because it sets stuff up and pays off later, but it's still a sucker punch in the feels.)

Woo. Thanks for the warning. I love previews, so I won't try to arrive late, because that bit's important, but perhaps my fingernails will be especially fascinating.

Tim and I went to see it for the second time on Labor Day, and we were running errands before. He kept checking the time, and I said, "WE CAN MISS the first scene. That would be okay." But then -- no previews. Tough call. (We made it in time for the previews and just toughed it out through the first scene.)

Oy. Brother continued to irk this morning--he set his alarm for 730, and I had figured we needed to be up around 8....he hit snooze three times, I told him to cut it out...and he went back to sleep until I woke up at 840 and was like "what time is it?" Gr.

But we are now on a bus (the 10am rather than 9am) which has wifi and tablets in the seat backs for movies (including many in English!) so that's pretty awesome.
