Hey, preaching to the choir. I thought our Lady of the Perpetual Sea Breeze was the real deal until the Divine Miss J walked right through that door and right into my ass—which is where my heart is…physiologically. I could show you an x-ray.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

OMG, I'm such a bitch. I was just thinking about all the laundry I'm going to do when I get up tomorrow when a friend texted about our brunch plans, and my first thought was "ugh." Oh no! I have friends, who want to hang out.

Jesse, that's not being a bitch. It's just being tired (and I don't mean physically). I'm so sorry about your dad.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

You save your resources for when you need them, Jesse. Sometimes friends fall to the bottom of the list.

Aw, you guys are nice. It'll be good to see her. And then I can do all the laundry in the world after.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

That takes up a lot of spoons, Jesse -- I'm not surprised you're running low just now.

I have a recipe for chess pie that I can make if I can come up with a substitute for evaporated milk -- evidently you can simmer almond or coconut milk down by half and use it pretty confidently. I'm thinking that getting out the double-boiler would be good for this, since it would be very hard to scald it that way -- yes, no?

Because books.

Socializing takes energy! But the nice thing is, sometimes it also provides it.

I think a double boiler would be your best bet, Theo.

Double boilers are the best. Even though I've only ever used a glass bowl on a pan.

Back to me: And a lot of the laundry is in service of the houseguests I'm really excited about over the 4th of July, but ALSO preemptively exhausted about that! There's a lot to do to have an actually usable guest room, but it will be worth doing, and I have next weekend.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I am so sorry, Jesse

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I'm sorry, Jesse. It made it so much better that my mom actually enjoyed her last year, in a safe place, and being well taken care of by people who liked her, rather than a tired and frustrated family. That your dad is strong and healthy and enjoying where he is is a good thing.

Happy Midsummer, people!
