I'm making a cake today for a friend's birthday. She loves white chocolate and I have recipe for a white chocolate icing. I was all excited until I make the icing and it is really runny and NOT good for piping. So, that is going to become the glorified crumb coat and I'll make some buttercream to go over it all pretty. Overboard, but the cake is so ugly right now. At least I have a box so she can take it home with her!
Excellent, aurelia!
As a lazy Yankee, is it OK for me to make banana pudding with pudding mix and whipped cream? As opposed to custard and meringue? (I think I'm going to do it regardless of what you people say, for the record.)
Ugly cake is far superior to no cake at all. IJS.
Lazy banana pudding is still pretty darn delicious.
You could do pudding mix and meringue--really confuse people. In fact, I think most of those banana puddings I ate as a kid at church suppers were made with pudding mix and meringue.
My meringue/whipped cream issue is that I really want to use a glass bowl for maximum effect, but I don't think mine would stand up to the broiler, and I don't have a torch or anything.
Awesome news Aurelia!
I think I've only ever had banana pudding as served in cafeterias. Don't recall whipped cream or meringue, just Nilla wafers.
I say whipped cream is always okay, personally.
And you should get a torch, but I just like torches.
Congrats, flea!
The library/Book of Kells was the main reason we wanted to go to Trinity College. Mmm, books.
