I sent a "Hallooo!" email to the UCLA position first thing this morning. Haven't heard anything back--I hope I phrased it diplomatically (asking about alternatives for documentation) enough.

Natter 73: Chuck Norris only wishes he could Natter
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Part of the upheavals that preceded me being let go involved interesting changes to the employee handbook, including "no drinking during the work day." When we finished the project I'd been originally contracted to work on, the entire company got 1-2 glasses of fizzy wine per employee.
They also instituted a no-fraternisation policy, which upset my mother and sister, since they had some plans for me. Does anyone here work somewhere with no-frat? Like, across the entire company, not just within the reporting structure? They made a lot of changes since our purchase. I didn't really keep in touch with anyone, but I would love a good heaping plate of gossip.
Unrelatedly, I just hit this picture in my Dore downloads. The picture doesn't have the technique I'm looking for, but isn't it mesmerising? It's both flat and 3D at the same time. I can't stop staring.
Have you looked at Albrecht Durer? He did a lot of woodcuts with magnificent line work.
Whoa, that picture is astounding.
Prosecco then self-eval is totally the way to do it!
What the heck? I got a letter today from the Surcharge Violations Board saying I'm on notice to have my license suspended for failing to pay something owing back to my license debacle last year. I paid everything! Am I going to pay this and get a notice next year and every year henceforth?! Office is closed now, so I'll have to call them tomorrow to find out what's the deal (and of course pay it, because I don't need that). My hands were shaking when I read it and for ten minutes after.
Having a glass of wine now.

Oh, nice call. Thank you.
Timelies all!
Time to drag out the Giant Suitcase of Doooom and pack for our trip. We fly to London tomorrow.
Oh, dang, juliebird, hope it's just a snafu and easily fixed.

If I have I was unaware of it. Though it hasn't generally been something I've been concerned about, either.
Funeral situation. mr. flea's colleague died last week and they are having a memorial this Saturday, at a Waldorf School farm, a potluck with bonfire, children invited. mr. flea worked with S for the past 3 years, and knew him 20 years ago in grad school, and was better friends with S's wife D. I met D 20 years ago but probably wouldn't recognize her today; I never met S. We've lived in the same city these 3 years and never met socially. mr. flea wants me to get off work so we can go with the children to the funeral, which would also mean them missing a social event we had RSVPed to. If we knew the deceased or the family - if it was someone in our school community for example - I would in an instant, but as it is I am reluctant. Am I wrong? Should we go? (I am frankly doubtful I can get off work.)

Here at work they're tickled when people discover each other, so long as no drama is involved.
