Karl, all my sympathies to you for everything you're going though right now.
A never-fail grad gift -- look up the town where they're going to college, and find what pizza joints are the best, and that deliver to the dorms, and buy a gift certificate. Or to a grocery store or Target or whatever store they have (my tiny college town STILL only has a Wal-Mart.)
