Yay, income Calli! Even if not quite what you might've hoped for--I hope there's other pluses like location or possible future raises or it's less time or something?
Not to make light of your predicament, Strix, but I am picturing you walking away in slow motion from your car as it explodes.
I am totally picturing this now too!
Thanks, y'all! Some income aside, the pluses include interesting work, something to put in my resume so I don't show an entire year of unemployment, and not having to pay for all my health insurance. There's also a solid chance I'll be able to work from home a two or three days a week after I get settled, and while I'm looking forward to getting out and about a bit, I'm sure my inner introvert will eventually be in favor of that.
Great to hear, Calli! Woot!
Congrats, Calli! That sounds real good.

I can see this. Sorry for the car self-destruction, Strix. I hope this causes you much less trouble than it sounds like it will.
Steph, I've spent most of the day waiting on a response from That One Manager Who Never Answers My Email. Predictably, he never did answer, so I just did what seemed reasonable, and if it was wrong, I'm sure someone will tell me so. I've been dealing with one of his team's journals while that journal's editor is out on maternity leave; it's been 3 weeks and he has not answered a single email yet. I'm thinking of informing my boss of this, just as an FYI, just in case some ball gets dropped that I don't even know about, so she knows ahead of time that he isn't communicating with me.

I went ahead and did X thing today that I thought was correct, and within 5 minutes he emailed me (I assume he saw the activity on the database) and said "You could have just done Y, but X is okay too."
Well, (1) if X was okay, then you didn't need to contact me at all; (2) if you would have answered questions, I would have just done Y (which would have been less work for me anyway); and (3) the ONLY thing that gets you to email is when you see something "wrong"??? I wouldn't have done it wrong if you had just answered my first 2 emails, you giant knob.
New (to me) cat Breed that is sometimes hairless. (Or at least looks like it.)
When I'm dealing with people who do not return e-mails, I CC everything.
Exploding car = not good
But that slow-mo visual made me laugh. Only because I know you're ok.
Congrats, Calli!
I am currently across the street from my school because I realized I was getting hangry and needed to eat something before I had an issue.
