I feel like I really need to speak up here for the people in Poland that I've worked with for so many years, and/or taught, who have never been anything but respectful of my Jewish husband (who keeps a form of kosher) while we've been there, and took us to Auschwitz and the discussion we had about my DH's feelings on seeing it and the complex relationship they have with the site.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
That's good to hear.

I thought my long-running internet problems were office-wide, but apparently not! I finally complained to IT, and they came and fixed stuff! Just goes to show, I guess, that sometimes complaining is the right answer. I do think that not doing it ALL the time is worthwhile, since they still take me seriously.
I'm waiting for my relatives to show up so they can have lunch and an office tour.
The 'unamerican credentials don't transfer well' thing still exists - a woman I know from high school did law school in the UK (she was married to a British man) and when she divorced and returned the the US found that she could not use her law degree. She's currently enrolled in a US law school (while working as a paralegal.)
I'm sure your friend is aware of this, but there are states where you can sit for the bar without going to law school. [link]

To be clear about my German backpacking friends - they were open-hearted, generous, liberal-minded people. One of them was learning Turkish (the latest despised minority). When we had the whole "Kosher food exists" conversation it was in the context of meeting an observant family also staying in our hostel (long story) and they were eager to learn abut it. Their ignorance wasn't due to THEIR cruelty in any way.
I have no work to do right now so I'm practicing playing a MIDI guitar on my Mac. It's one of these: [link] Small enough to fit in my backpack.

Hah--I was on chat with an IT guy the other day about an issue, and was like 'BTW, just want to check, is [program we use] being weird for everyone, is that a known thing? Or should I open a ticket?" Because we've been having big problems with that program (SO ANNOYING), but they hadn't sent any "it's down" messages...
Ooh, like a mini synthaxedrumitar! Fun.
I wonder what Future Man thinks of it.
