So, this is one of the houses we saw today, and we're a little bit in love. It's within walking distance of what passes for downtown Ossining (including the Metro North station and the brand new HUGE library), and really close to the elementary and middle schools.
The previous owners upgraded just about everything, so every room is cable/ethernet wired. The backyard is a really nice size, with a new patio. The two rooms on the second floor are perfect kid-size (but not tiny), and the master bath on the ground floor has a jacuzzi. The basement has one nicely finished room that would make a great home theatre, and one unfinished where the washer/dryer/etc are.
The only thing it's missing is a formal dining room. The eat-in kitchen is big enough for our family plus a few guests, and in good weather people could spill out onto the patio pretty easily, but hosting Thanksgiving might be difficult. (There are also no hotels close by, so if we did want to host my family for Thanksgiving most of them would have to stay in Tarrytown.)
Jessica, that looks really nice. it's similar to my friends' place in New City.
1309 square feet definitely doesn't leave a lot of room for hosting but it looks lovely. You could always set up cars tables in the basement or bedroom if it comes to that. That is what my grandma always did.
It's gorgeous!
Aw, pretty house.
That looks lovely, Jessica!

Ah ha ha ha! I'll have to invite you over to hang in my 1100 square feet of chaos some time.
Very pretty, Jess! I was actually expecting the price to be higher.
You could also rent tents and heaters for outside space if that big. But the kitchenspace looks sufficient to me (but I'm used to rowhouse, so tripping over people not a thing,)
Dad is back on water board and running a campaign in a stealth election for soil & conservation board. He drew first listing on the ballot and Sierra Club is rallying supporters. Tea partiers aren't going to know what happened to them. It doesn't do much, but could if it wasn't resolutely antigovt. This will be interesting.
Well, we're living in 900 now so it felt pretty spacious! And that 1309 doesn't include the basement.
The other house we saw was bigger, but had a really awkward upstairs layout - there were four huge bedrooms, but they all kind of just opened up onto the landing, there was no real hallway to separate any of them. It was also more expensive and needed a LOT more work.
