One of our faculty usually tutors a kid every year for the national spelling bee. Don't know if any of his tutees win the big prize, but it's kind of interesting to know.

You know, it never occurred to me to ask for an extension(s) on the difficult programming course I took a couple of years ago. Didn't even cross my mind, even though in fact I had three different jobs during it and astonishing little help from the TAs.

I can't watch the spelling bees. Way too stressful.
The university where I went to grad school had way more entitled kids than the one where I'm teaching now, but a large part of that probably has to do with the price tag at each of them.

The bills from the surgeries are starting to come in. This is exactly what I saved a bunch of money for, and so far I'm going to cover 90% of it, but damn, I hate spending that saved money. Either way, I'm either going to spend that money or be paying in installments for a very long time, so I don't know what's so hard about it. I just love seeing that balance in the savings account. I guess I'm more like my father than I thought.
