But now I have coffee.

lisah, if knowing what the Oxford comma is would get me a job at your company, I would apply. I'd probably answer that question with, "It has its place."
Apostrophe trouble!
Eeep! That one catches me up nearly every time; I really have to think about it. What can I say, I'm drinking oolong instead of black tea--less caffeine.
My GOD, if that's who they give an interview to, who applied that they DIDNT decide to interview????
I KNOW, RIGHT?! We did interview someone who seemed pretty great so I'm encouraging the hiring manager to make him an offer ASAP.
So, I was interviewing someone for a tech writer position today and, when I asked his opinion of the Oxford comma, he responded "is that the comma with the dot over it?"
That just makes my day. No rage here, just laughter.
I would consider giving someone a pass on "Oxford comma" because maybe they know it as a different name, but THINKING IT MIGHT BE A SEMICOLON??? That's beyond the pale.

Oxford?
What I like is that this guy may have found the one way to unite the pro- and anti-Oxford comma factions. Whether you are for it or against it, you can find common ground in deciding that he is an idiot.

Exactly!!! I did interview someone last week who didn't know the term but understood when I said "serial comma" and she had an opinion about it.
It would also concern me that he doesn't know what a semi-colon is? Weird.
