According to that one line in the pilot, it's King Lear.
Empire/Nashville night is one of my favorite nights on TV.
(Note, I have no idea if these shows actually air on the same night, because I am always Tivo-delayed. In our house, they are a double-header because soapy melodramas with music = awesomesauce, and Empire is an excellent antidote to all of Nashville's white-people-problems.)
Jessica, that is what I meant. Can I blame pregnancy brain?
Ha! I thought you were referring to Lucious being mad at the oldest son for marrying a white woman and becoming an accountant. But you can totally blame pregnancy brain. I still do and my youngest is four.
I thought the line referencing King Lear undercut any comparison to King Lear. It's only a superficial similarity as I remember Lear (which is not very well, I tend to conflate it with all the folktales featuring three daughters of king who asks them to prove their filial devotion but my point is in all of those it's the youngest daughter is all true and good and loving and in Empire I don't think we can say that about the sons).
Lion in Winter I don't so much know so I can't judge.
I have sorted a lot of laundry. Now I need to decide how much of it to actually wash because doing it all could take longer than I have available...
Hmmmm.... [link]
oh, she's pretty.

I disagree. I think Jamal is very much the Cordelia of the show. Lucious dismisses him because he doesn't do and say exactly as his father says, but I think he is the most worthy of inheriting Empire.
So damned much stuff in my house. Stuff I shouldn't be cluttering up a landfill with, stuff that needs sorting and hauled to various places. Tangled up with stuff that is actual garbage, but the garbage can is full, so the junk just sits there, mocking me with my inability to get rid of it. I can't put a dumpster in the driveway for months, the neighborhood would riot. So it has to get removed in small batches, and I think I've made progress, then I turn my head and see the other three corners of the room.
