Yay, flea!

I sold gold today! I feel so underground economy. I had a ring that I think came from MIL's stash. At some time in the past, someone had decided the main stone was more valuable out than in and had wrenched it out of the setting. So I had a distorted ring with an empty setting. 14kt gold, I took it to the coin dealer we've done business with before, and he gave me $35 for it. I'm happy with that, the ring was doing me no good, and I was expecting to hear $10 or $15.

I then ordered DVDs. I have two other complete rings that are gold with semi-precious stones that I have no idea how to sell properly. I guess I can take them to a jewelers and at least get the stones identified. I think one is jade. Too bad it's too small for me.

Herding cats for fun

Connie, recycled gold is very in with jewelers. There's a movement calling for the crap at the bottom of the jewelry box nobody ever wears. It's green because mining your stash is good for your environment, unlike mineral extraction.

To those who've had cataract surgery--how groggy were you after the surgery? The doctor made it sound like mild sedation to keep me from the natural reaction of "What the fuck are you doing to my eye!", but the lady I talked to was saying "Oh, you'll need to have someone with you that day." I don't want someone lurking around my house! If I'm OK after a couple of hours, I should be able to just call somebody every now and then until it's clear, shouldn't I?
