The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Plei, I suspect your mom and my stepdad might be related.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Someone in HR should absolutely know better. We are a very first-names-only company (for whatever reason) and all the Jennifers, for example, get nicknames in part so we can easily tell which Jennifer we're talking about, but anyone who goes by a nickname gets to pick that nickname, or at least explicitly approve it.

Oh, mom of Plei.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Our finance department now has a Jarid and a Jarod, and the new one had to tell people he didn't like being called J-Rod. But it's so fun!

I have had a call, written a couple of things, have pork braising for later pulling, and this on the stove for lunch. Not bad! Eventually I'll have to go shovel, I guess, but I'm mostly waiting for the neighbor to run the snowblower, since it's so light that should pretty much do it.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

She's a lovely person, truly. Just... well. Like that.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I have a good friend on FB who is delightful and wickedly funny in RL but on FB it just comes out really snotty. I brace myself when I get a notification that she's commented on something.

brillig

I am so sick and tired of people who use a computer program for their livelihood and who think not knowing how to use a computer is something to be proud of. Then they're all smug that they've forced me to have to connect into their system so I can browse to the folder they need.

"Go to CompanyName.com."
"Where's that, in the program?"
"That's our website."
"So I need to go on the Internet."
"Yes."
"So I need to open up my browser?"
"Yes."

"Do you know how to get to your C: drive?"
"No, what's that?"

These are not little old grandmas trying to figure out how to do email. These are businessmen who work on a computer every day as part of their work. I accept that they don't like having their lack of knowledge highlighted, but stop acting like knowing how to find your way around a computer is something they're too special to do!

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

It's funny how differently people come across in different circumstances.

Before I forget to say it, I learned something today: Liese's pictures don't begin to do her justice

Aww, thanks. It was really good to see all of you.

I may have to seize the cat.

Why would you ever shorten someone's name without knowing that they went by that nickname? Especially in a business setting.
People are constantly calling me Kim. Not once in my life have I introduced myself this way. Never ever. And yet. My sympathies, msbelle.

I have an aunt who does that on the regular. I'll post a picture after a haircut and she'll comment with "I liked your hair longer."
Most of the reason I stopped being truthful on Facebook is my aunt. My sister recently posted about how she was very overwhelmed, and my aunt replied, "You don't even know what overwhelmed is" or something to that effect. It was almost like she thought, "What's the least helpful thing I can say in this situation?" and then chose to do so.

I may have to seize the cat.

Also, "resolution" of the GRE debacle: I have to take the GRE again. Signed up to take it a week from today. Did a practice test and got 93rd percentile verbal and 56th percentile math, so I'm not too worried. Mostly just annoyed.
