My aunt has been unsuccessful in getting the wifi to work at the hospital, so we have still not "seen" my mother. I finally gave up and called her on the phone (I seriously had to untangle our landline from the internet cables and dust it off). I at least got to hear her voice. Luna talked with her and had the first real telephone conversation she has ever had. She doesn't get the opportunity often, and when she has talked on the phone in the past its all, "Yes. Yes. No. Bye!" This time she asked all kinds of questions about what the doctors were doing for her and how long she needed to be there. It was adorable and one of those parent moments where you wish you had video of it. Then when it came time to say goodbye, I handed the phone back to her and she said, "I really really really really miss you GaGa and I want to come to America. Today. Right now." I totally lost it at that point. The idea that she is feeling the same feelings I am just kills me.

I had things to say about food but I spent the hours between midnight and 6:30 this morning vomiting a couple of times an hour. fun!

Now, I am sitting on the couch sipping ginger ale thanks to my amazing dog sitter who has the dog for the day and contemplating whether I'm up for even checking my work email. I'm feeling like not.

Oh Lisa, that sounds miserable! And Calla, your daughter has been in hospital a few times, right? So she knows what grandma is going through!

I'm mostly annoyed at myself that I didn't get up and work out. Again. I keep packing workout clothes...and not using them...(extra obnoxiously I'll likely have plenty of time before my flight, but nowhere to shower after exercising, since I already checked out of my hotel, and have no rental car)

Oh no, Lisa! My coworker apparently had some kind of stomach bug over the weekend, but is better enough to be here today? But wasn't sure how long she would last. I told her, next time stay home! Feel better.

I made a (turkey)BLTA sandwich for lunch today at work, and am now wondering why I've made so many turkey & cheese sandwiches that don't taste nearly as good over the past year.

They have a sandwich like that at a place in my office lobby but I get it with hummus instead of avocado. Nom.

That is correct. Vegetables in particular are much more bitter to young kids.

How the hell was this not in my arsenal of facts to throw at my mother while I sat at the table for hours wailing over being required to eat broccoli.

Though my mom was pretty good about stuff like that. You never got a whole separate meal, but for a long time she would pour out a bowl of frozen peas (straight from the freezer) and put them out for me to eat in lieu of having more than a bite of whatever other veg she had made.

Still. It's the kind of thing my snotty inner 7-year-old would have loved to throw out there.

My fave picky eater kid quote is my friends' daughter, maybe 3 or 4 at the time, refusing to eat a piece of grilled chicken "That piece got cooking on it!" because piece had a little toasted brown bit.

I took a look at my work email and got exhausted just trying to set up my out of office message saying I'm sick today. oof.
