Natter 73: Chuck Norris only wishes he could Natter
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
You don't like chicken livers? We are so not the same! My flabber is ghasted.
Ha! Actually I meant beef liver (because that's "liver" in my head) but that's clearly not what I wrote. Chicken liver on the other hand, much depends on the preparation. Like sauteed in butter is a bit too forward to me, but I love pate and love it in pasta sauces.
Okay, what's braunschweiger made of? Must be liver too, right? Okay, so I clearly am not as anti-liver as I said. It just needs a lot of pork fat, garlic, and salt to balance it out.
I had fish and chips with mushy peas tonight at dinner.
It may contain beets. I have no idea what to do with beets. Or if I like them.
I am available for beet consultation! Roasted, definitely. I like them by themselves with olive oil, salt & pepper, and goat cheese. Also good on salad, best with more peppery, flavorful greens to contrast the sweetness of the beet. (Roasted beets + arugula + goat cheese + pistachios = yum.) Beets are also good on flatbread. Goes with bacon and prosciutto.
My fave salad is steak with radishes and beets and butter lettuce. Mmmm.
And somehow I knew shrift was the girl to talk to about beets. Sometimes I think I know too much about you people. Then I see quotes that I have totally forgotten, and figure no, I just remember weird shit.
Roasted beets, yay! ALthough I am informed that beets can be a problem for people with IBS, because there's something in them that isn't handled well by some folks' systems. I have a friend who loves them and can't eat them at all anymore.
Braunschweiger is definitely liver. We had a dog who lived for the last few months of her life entirely on the stuff.
I think I ended up with a big radish-y thing from the Farmer's Market. I think I will roast it later in the week, as that's what I seem to be doing with my other root vegetables.
Checking in from Copenhagen, where again I will say the food in my hotel is amazing. I'm not sure what the actual purpose of the thin slices of chocolate that are at the breakfast buffet (I think people put them on toast?), but they're delicious eaten with my coffee.
I don't like brussel sprouts. No, not even roasted, or wrapped in bacon. I keep trying them, and then I keep making the sad toddler face that amuses Plei and Cass so much.
I got this from Dharma restaurant in Capitola by the Bay -- grate a pile of raw beet and raw carrot onto your salad, top with roasted unsalted sunflower seeds. The yum.
I am caught up only in this thread, moving more slowly through others for sadness requires slow and careful treading. Plus, I tend to read at work and spontaneous uncontrollable sadz is bad for customer service. Apparently it's not ok to cry during 911 calls, even though sometimes they really do make me sad. But it's ok because I don't have to stay forever and get to go home after every shift.
Monday is my friday. Now is my weekend. Many nights after work I face the same choice: cocktail or flexeril. Both help with the pain and the muscle spasms. Flexeril lasts longer, but cocktail tastes better. Tonight I chose booze and probably overdid it. Two (small) tumblers of frangelico with sugared lemon wedges. I had a half a lemon in the fridge, seemed like a good way to work through it. Yummy, but the sofa seems to be moving more than it should. Sofas aren't supposed to move, right? Probably should have stuck with one. But so yummy. Pretty sure I should also forgo my nightly bath. Which is a little sad, because tonight is night for epsom salts (i like to alternate salt and fresh water baths for variety) and I did my more challenging pt exercises today so there will be great soreness tomorrow, but drowning in my bathtub would be super embarrasing. Especially since tonight is my friday so i wouldn't be missed from work till friday, which is my monday. Why does that always sound so confusing? right, no bath. More water drinking. Why is cat meowing at me? I know i fed them both.
Good news about my mom. The obstruction cleared with the pump. She's still super sick with vomiting, headache, and vertigo, but it looks like no immediate surgery. She was already facing potential abdominal surgery prior to this, so its more likely she will need it now. But scheduled surgery is much better than emergency patch-her-up surgery. We'll have a better idea of what happens next after her doctor visits later this morning. Thank you all for the kind thoughts!
Kids vs. Food: Cow Tongue
Thank you Dana! Those videos are hysterical, I subscribed. Makes me want to video my daughter eating!
Lilly won't eat spicy food, where the definition of spicy appears to include "was once in the same room as a pepper, maybe."
Luna is the same. She also claims carbonated drinks are too spicy. Which is fine with me, no battles over soda.
Glad for the good news, Callaluna! Hope your mom continues to feel better. Vomiting, headache, and vertigo is no fun.
