Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

This is a friend who gleefully collects creepy and disturbing clown dolls. He refuses to believe that Belinda could be overwhelmingly disturbing. HE IS SO WRONG.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I just got an email from my alderman about a proposed restaurant. I'm a little surprised at some of the old laws still on the books that are at issue:

The zoning on the property allows for a restaurant with an incidental liquor license, but several impediments stand in the way. The property currently resides in an area where the sale of alcohol is prohibited. The precinct in which the property is located was voted "dry" in 1936 under a state law, which gives voters in Chicago through a "local option referendum," an opportunity to vote on the question of whether to prohibit the sale of liquor in their precinct.

...

The precinct boundaries have changed since the 1936 referendum, which complicates matters somewhat.

...

Finally, when the area was in the 40th Ward, Alderman O'Connor sponsored and passed an ordinance imposing a moratorium on the sale of liquor along Devon Avenue. If the applicants are successful at convincing the voters to support lifting the prohibition either through a referendum or petition, I would sponsor an ordinance lifting the moratorium on liquor sales for the portion of Devon Avenue that includes the proposed business.

I wonder how many times they've lifted the moratorium on specific locations (seeing as there is a liquor store, a bar, and a grocery that sells alcohol within 3 blocks) and why they wouldn't just remove the moratorium altogether.

ION I'm trying to get back into the Pilates habit in the hopes it will prevent the kind of back problems I've had this past week. Day 1 done!

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

ugh - online job searching. Have only found jobs that would be at least a $15K pay cut. This is how this company keeps people, they do pay well.

So tired here. Signed up for too much this week and it will be fine and good, but the part of my brain that needs routine is having cracked out squirrels. Tiresome part of my brain.

Met some neighbors tonight and I swear I've seen the husband around before- Y maybe? Anyway, they posted to the neighborhood listserv needing a workbench and clamps to cut 1/4 " off a metal bracket, so I offered. It turns out, they needed my sawzall too! Their tool couldn't do metal. I'd just bought a variety pack of blades last week. Anyway, I liked them a lot, felt like I'd known them before. She's due with their first in 3 weeks. So that was fun.

Oh, and they had a plumber rec for repiping. They've done all of theirs and had multiple quotes. So that was nice too!

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

Went out to the local art festival, in broiling weather. It was a good day out. I just couldn't afford a single thing I liked.

Toyota is a big sponsor and they had a few cars there and were offering test drives with a $20 bonus. Only got the $20 for the first test drive, but I got to take three cars out - the Carolla, Avalon, and Venza. None of them are solid contenders for my new car research, but if someone handed me the keys to any of them, I would be happy.
