A question for those with knowledge of animal health: I've been putting Shadow's treats and regular dry cat food in a bowl on the porch for whatever neighborhood creatures may wander by, and it's being scrupulously eaten. But I've got most of a bag of prescription cat food that he refused to eat. I doubt the vet would take an opened bag of cat food, but I'm worried about putting it out for the neighborhood wanderers. Would it hurt them?

I doubt it Connie. I assume it's a health specific diet...but it wouldn't be medicated.
I would guess it's fine, Connie. Probably better for the scavengers than most of what they find to eat.
Laundry and dishes are underway, football has put me in a good mood for once, I feel like I have the coming week (interrupted by holiday as it is) well in hand. Would that every Sunday had such a feel to it.
Hm, I should cook, or at least make a plan to use up whatever is in my pantry that I'll be dropping from my diet on the first...
Connie, you could probably donate the prescription food to an animal shelter.
I'm feeling super accomplished -- I have finished all of this years pajamas (5 pairs for Noah, 3 for Grace, 1 for me, 2 as gifts) and we took down the tree and the christmas lights. Feeling DONE.
Depends on what it's medicated for -- I know that the renal health/kidney store health food won't hurt a regular cat, they have just less of the ash and other residue that is likely to set off renal infections and kidney stones.
I have to say, while the food options are slim in the newly reno'ed BHM airport, their free wifi is hassle free.
Connie, the vet will totally take back prescription food, or at least they did when my dog died.
My vet wouldn't, but a cat rescue did. But also, I doubt a feral animal supplementing with prescription food would be hurt at all.
It's either renal health or something for joints. So probably something like a multi-vitamin for kitties, which can only be good for the ferals.
Do skunks hibernate? Shadow was friends with some local skunks who would hang around in the summer. Honestly, Hubby would look out at night and see them snuggled next to each other in the yard.
