Don't you just love this party? Everything's so fancy, and there's some kind of hot cheese over there.

Ginger, did you see the WaPo article about elf on shelf and the panopticon: [link]

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I had it bookmarked and just read it. I think you'd have to be a Bentham scholar to make the connection, but it works. The concept was introduced earlier in "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" with "He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows when you're awake...."

The other day I may have unnerved other shoppers by muttering "creepy little stalker" as I went by the Elf display.

Congratulations to the tablet winners! I won a house plant once. It died.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

I hope some winning-luck rubs off on me!

Congrats, all!

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

The infinity scarf talk made me realize that what I really wanted was one made out of black silk tulle. Floaty! Ghostly!

Then I looked at prices for silk tulle. Yeah, that's a project that's going to wait until at least the new year.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Which tablets did you guys win? For once I'm truly not agitated about upgrading my software, but I'm on my second Samsung tablet (for good reasons) and love them beyond, uh, reason.

Jilli, that sounds amazing. There will be pictures, right???

Nice nurse tonight. Replacements can be dicey (I'm not looking forward to the fill-in nurse Sunday--I need to tell her to wear a mask. Sterile field, my ass.) but she's from Belize so we have nice yardie (people from back a' yard, clearly) conversation.

Oh, of course there will be. But I guess for now I'll have to console myself with the scarf/throw/shawl thing that I just unearthed from the Storage Room o' Doom, which is a lace-edged wedding veil that I dyed black. And now as I sit here examining the fabric, I think it actually may be silk tulle. Not bad for a $3 thrift store score.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Gronk.

I have a cold, and didn't get the job I interviewed for yesterday, for which I was actually probably alarmingly overqualified.

If the interviewers hadn't been perfectly nice, I could console myself that they probably will pick up this stupid bug from the handshaking. As it is, I just feel guilty about that.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I don't even know where to put this, but I started watching Broadchurch last night on Netflix. I watched 5 episodes, and then I googled it, as I am often known to do when watching a series.

AND THERE IS A BIG HONKING TWIST SPOILER! I can only be mad at myself, and usually I am fine with spoilers, but I totally did not see that coming.

hip deep in pie

Sophia, I felt that way watching the show unspoiled.

My Xmas party is tonight and even though I started holidays today, I paid for dinner, so I have to go. And there won't be any tablets to win.

ita, I met a nice Jamaican woman and we got to talking in line at the store. She has a cousin named Ita, but it's pronounced ET-T-a. (Not almost slurred, like Etta (Etdah) James.)

(It's not you, btw.Her cousin.)

Have I been mispronouncing your name all these years? I always thought EE-TTa, with a very emphatic T sound.
