We had our "party". Food brought in, basically no stoppage of work. Drew names for prizes with the majority of the employees not present for it. I got one of the 3 or 4 worst gifts. Not that really any of it is of interest to me. The target of the gifts is truck drivers. Did get a $50 gift card - to a chain restaurant of course, but $ I won't spend.
The company also gave everyone a $50 gc to Walmart. Do I guess I will hold my breath and go buy groceries.
Grump.
My employer is big on giving gift cards, which I gift on to other people for whom I would have probably bought a gift card.
I used to work at a place that did the Secret Santa/mandatory gift buying. It's just a bad idea. I gave and received a lot of Yankee Candles. (I'm allergic to candles.)
msbelle, I noticed that my supermarket has a Redeem Your Unwanted Gift Cards machine now. I'm not sure what cut it takes -- don't forget, you can trade cards on Ebay/Craigslist and so on.
Timelies all!
I don't think anyone in my family served in the military. My dad was exempt for being drafted because he worked for a defense contractor(Electric Boat), and then I was born.
I was doing pretty well today, but once I got into my car to go home gloominess kinda smacked me in the head. Stupid short days...
I just lost the LBD game sitiing in a Chinese restaurant.
What the hell is wrong with people? I just had to argue my nurse into coming for my
regular
infusion. She thought we switched to Wednesdays, when I told her I was looking to start work soon. Which I still don't know about--tentative start date is now the 17th. I am *so* fucked.
After arguing, she won't come Saturday, has to be Sunday, those are the rules. But before she'd come as early as Friday, if needed.
First the ER, now her...I have lost control of my pain management entirely, it seems. And my pain.
I decided to try and use the restaurant gift card tonight, but the wait was almost an hour and mac was not up for that. I will use it soon though, I hate it when I lose gift cards - like throwing away money.
So now we are home and neither one of use is eating anyway. Beer and SPN for me. I hope to finish S9 this weekend.
Ugh, ita, I'm so sorry.
I am finally about to go home! Hour and half late, and didn't take lunch. I may tour all the happy hours of downtown...
My maternal grandfather served in the Pacific theater in WWII, and apparently spent a lot of time in Australia. My paternal grandfather was a civil engineer and as such was declared to be "essential" civilian personnel and was not able to serve in combat - a fact he was bitter about until the end of his days.
Well, nixing the half-formed happy hour plan. Once I got home, Walter was so happy to see me I would feel bad leaving him again. Also, while I was driving home I slowed way down for the safety of a cyclist sharing the road, someone behind me honked and I yelled "Fuck you!" at my rearview mirror, so maybe it's best I am not out among the humans tonight. Opening a bottle of 2004 Zinfandel instead.
