My mom gets a pension from the US Armed Forces (a whole $50/month), but not Social Security.

Honestly, I kinda feel like one place is pretty much like another. I mean, they are all different but they all have pros and cons and I don't have much of a preference based on intrinsic values of location. Feel like staying near my parents is a good idea right now, other than that I shrug.

Apparently the vogue is to retire into the mountains, for people who don't want to adjust to full tropics again. People fly lumber from the US, etc. But I like Kingston.

You don't have a temperature preference? Population density? Language/cuisine? My dad dragged us along to a few places, and I've liked everywhere I've lived except Michigan, but I could never intimate that they're similar (ESPECIALLY DETROIT).

I worked out who I'm meeting and when! Woohoo! Now I have to chase down my prescription for the weekend (the doctor's office has to fax a form in triplicate once every four weeks, and they always let it slide until Friday, no matter how soon I call them. Not only is there now a woman whose whole job is prescriptions, they told me the doctor was ON THE LINE with the pharmacy yesterday, but he seems to have forgotten how to write.

I was having this conversation the other day, and I decided I haven't been enough places to know where to live. I think closer to equator would be great for more light (SAD is hitting hard) but I was not built for a warm climate. Ireland might be great. But so would somewhere tropical, maybe?

I guess the winning the lottery ideal is houses in multiple locales, depending on mood.

If you could move anywhere, where would you go?

Domestically, I've been shooting for Traverse City, MI. (I like snow.) It has Lake Michigan, a foodie scene, music (Interlochen is just south of there), and what looks like a solid bookstore/library setup.

Outside of the US, there are a lot of places I'd like to check out before making a final decision. But I occasionally fantasize about finding a Santorini-esque Greek island that's a little less tourist-ridden.

Traverse City is beautiful. In the summer, Charlevoix is one of the most beautiful places there is.

I suspect I belong in the Pacific Northwest. I never liked heat, but I like it less every year. I have no desire to fight snow and ice, though. It's pretty hard for me to make plans these days, though.
