Why is it that whenever I go to the post office, I'm behind people who aren't familiar with mail?

My boss complains about that. He was once stuck behind someone who did not address the package he was trying to mail because he had no idea how to do it.

I worked in publishing before the internet, and there was *always* a manuscript to read. Or a book I wanted to read, hidden behind a manuscript. I do remember a lot of talking and laughing with coworkers, though.

I was once in the post office behind someone who had a box they were mailing. Somehow, they put the "to" address in small letters in the upper left hand corner and the "from" in larger letters in the center. There was also the time I was behind some people who were - as far as I could tell - sending their entire library to Hawaii. They literally brought in a handtruck piled high with boxes of books.

You think people know how to function at the post office less since e-mail?

I think we all need this - or something like it.

I'm salaried non-exempt. It is legal. If I worked on overhead projects and had OT, the OT would be reduced by the OH hours, but not below the 80 hour pay period.

I've been lucky (and now I've jinxed myself) that my local post office has been pretty quick and efficient when I've had to stand in line.

Maybe. But my boss says it's usually older people who seem to have no clue.

(I don't mail shit enough to encounter these people. Except for the people who stay to chat with the postal person when they're done while others wait behind them.)

I just went to the post office an hour ago. I was the only one there, so it all went smoothly. I even got a sheet of Batman stamps!

Relatedly, I am patting myself on the back for finally exchanging Lands End gloves that are too large. I am amazed by their "return any time, for any reason" policy, but also grateful, because I got these gloves for Christmas last year. But my mom kept the packaging and gave it to me...and I promptly tossed it on the Pile Of Stuff I Should Do Something About Someday. And then, of course, spring and summer rolled around and I didn't think about it.

Once it got cold, I realized I would need new gloves that fit, and I was going to donate the large ones to Goodwill, until I checked the packing slip on a whim, because I vaguely remembered their "return any time, for any reason" policy. So those gloves are now headed back, after 11 months of just sitting around.

I just had a full on omgwtfpeople moment that involved yelling at my monitor.

You drop something for 6 months and then pick it up again as if it is urgent?

Even worse since it is a request for something that will be made redundant in about 4 months and we wouldn't have resources even if it was urgent and JESUS CHRIST HAVE THESE PEOPLE NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION THE PAST 6 MONTHS. Oh yeah, they never manage to make the meeting that exists for the sole purpose of getting information like this.
