Whee, Gravity Falls! That was terrific.
Animation 1: I'm Not Bad, I'm Just Drawn That Way
A thread to discuss television and online animation.
So much fun! I didn't even mind that we didn't get much Dipper and Mabel. Are we getting another episode next week?
Not according to my onscreen guide. Woes.
I think the next episode airs August 3rd. So, a wait, but not as annoyingly long as the last one.
J.K. Simmons is a national treasure. He makes everything better.
So a while back I was talking to Scola and I was talking about how Adventure Time had become an incubator of talent and that I was loving Steven Universe (Rebecca Sugar) and Puppycat and Bee (Natasha Allegri).
And he said, "Have you seen Over The Garden Wall?"
And I furrowed my brow and said, "....Over the Hedge? That Dreamworks thing with Bruce Willis as a sassy raccoon?"
And Tom looked horrified. Obviously he wouldn't recommend something like that.
And when Hulu picked up a whole slate of Cartoon Network shows, I was happy to see Over the Garden Wall. And it was amazing. So dark and beautiful and strange and distinctive.
So I introduced it to JZ and Matilda. And after the last episode aired JZ burst into tears and said, "What have I done with my life that I'm not making beautiful projects like this with interesting people instead of what I do with my days?!"
Which is an endorsement. Because it is a strange little beautiful gem, with fantastic voice talent (Elijah Wood, John Cleese, Christopher Lloyd, Melanie Lynsky) and songs and a distinct sensibility.

And Tom looked horrified.
Because obviously you could see what my face looked like as I described this thing to you over the phone.
Tom sounded horrified.
It was the quality of his long ellipsis.
How did I not know there were Cartoon Network shows on Hulu??? Including Samurai Jack!
