I had shingles about 5 years ago, and it was not very bad. Valtrex nipped it in the bud. But one certainly hears of terrible cases involving ongoing neuropathy. I had bad chicken pox - like, my parents the doctor and nurse nearly took me to the hospital bad - at 5.

I just found a scary site explaining that you couldn't get shingles if you got chickenpox

I had chickenpox as a child, and shingles as a teenager. Not fun. Plus, my shingles outbreak infected three of my cousins with chickenpox.
My mom had shingles, (just before the Valtrex drug came out, alas) and had a resulting trigeminal neuropathy that would send thunderbolts of pain across her face when she walked out into cold air.
I asked my doctor about the shingles vaccine, but most insurances won't pay for it until you're 60.
Yeah, my dad had it pre Valtrex and it was ghastly.

My grey/silver/white hair is more noticeable when my hair is down. When I pull my hair off my face with a barrette, its not that visible, unless you're very close.
I've had hairdressers strongly compliment my silver-streaked hair -- they've got customers who pay big bucks to get an effect that isn't nearly as good, they say.
