It's not like she blew me off. She just left with another guy, that's all.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I'm mainlining Zinc, Echinacea, C, Mucinex, Echinacea tea, and water.

Also, ibuprophen PM, because my neck still hurts. Which has led to family drama anxiety dreams where I disown my older brother and they all turn against me, which is weird, because said brothr is the fuck up that we're all smiling and nodding at as he plans his wedding.

Almost went shopping as a way to stave off the boredom, but then remembered that shopping makes me exhuasted on a good day (but, mom! I want new clothes!).

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Yes, I think so. You would probably want to remind her that she visited your class and attach the summary, to refresh her memory if necessary.

Thanks. Now, I just wish I had at least one letter of recommendation that talked about my research, but I'm not sure that I can get that, since I've barely done any research the past few years.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I so can't picture Dana in Saudi Arabia.

I just came home from the hospital and have about an hour before I need to pick up kids. I think I'm going to spend it writing instead of cleaning. I haven't had much time to write lately. But I am feeling a wee bit guilty as the cleaning needed around here is fairly massive.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Burrell: WRITE. Take the time to take care of yourself. You won't regret it.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

JetBlue "even more legroom" seats - worth it or not? For a 5-hour flight, it's tempting.

Because books.

Burrell, what Kate said.

God, work was a blur today.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

It's too soon for me to have to wear long sleeves and a jacket. Not that the weather listens to me...

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

In my book abundant authentic Middle Eastern food would easily trump lack of Tex-Mex. But the social issues and world record previously-thought-impossible heat index (172°) would be dealbreakers.

hip deep in pie

Not to mention the lack of alcohol.

Is it appropriate to email her and ask if she could write me a letter of recommendation?

Yes, assuming that you have other letters from people who know you better and can speak to your other qualities.

If it's a lecturer position, then a letter from someone who has direct experience with your undergraduate teaching would be very valuable. That is the one thing that is essential.

If it is a more research-oriented position then the situation is almost comically different. In my department you need a unanimous vote by the tenured faculty that your research is excellent (5 on a 1-5 scale) to be put up for tenure. But even though we have nearly 40,000 undergraduates on our campus who need to be taught, the criterion for teaching is an average score of 2 on the 1-5 scale to go up for tenure.

Fortunately most people are good teachers anyway, because the bad ones have such bad experiences that they drift toward medical school jobs, but it shows the priorities at big research universities.
