Look, you got a little stabbed the other day. That's bound to make anyone a mite ornery.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, that's terrible. A friend of mine lives close by, and had an awful picture of the smoke over the water.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Oh, that's awful. How sad.

Because books.

The pictures really are awful.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Oh, Jesus, that's terrible. LAY OFF NEW JERSEY UNIVERSE!

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

So I went out last night with a bunch of the folks I worked with for the last six years, and it was really nice to be reminded that even there, I did have people who respected my ability. Unfortunately the chances of actually getting hired back are slim, since the same old veterans-preferences thing still seems to control. But they're fun guys, and it was a good time.

And one of my oldest work friends, who I've known since 1999, told me that his daughters had gotten him back into rock-climbing, and we should get together and climb, which would be awesome.

And now I need to get off my ass and get to work, since this report is due at COB today and I have to leave early to take Dad to an appointment...

First I post in the wrong thread, and then I double-post! Yikes, world.

Because books.

Well, it is Friday the 13th ...

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Oh lord, you guys, my family has such a...unique view on life.

I was talking with my mom this morning about (what else?) wedding stuff, and she wanted to know if we should have the bar open before the ceremony, or wait until after. For purely practical reasons, I told her than since we hired the bartender for 5 hours, having the bar open after the ceremony is best, because it means his 5 hours goes later and he doesn't pack up and leave while the party is still in full swing. But also, I don't think people show up to a wedding expecting to crack open a Bud Lite before the ceremony, and I'm not too keen on that.

My mom's response? "You know, you're right. That first drink is more...special when it's after the ceremony. Like a celebration!"

My reply to her? "See, I was thinking that it's the CEREMONY that's special -- it's the whole reason everyone is there -- and I'd rather not have people treat it like happy hour."

Mom: "Oh, well, that too."

THAT TOO.

Eight days left, y'all. Only it's less a countdown of excitement and more a countdown of When Will This Be Over?

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

That, too, indeed.
