Hmm. It's sounds like the finest party I can imagine getting paid to go to.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I realized that I've had a Caribbean cookbook for about a year now and never cooked anything from it, so I decided to try some Caribbean recipes. I'm trying to figure out which recipes to make. I'm getting stymied by the lack of ingredients (there doesn't seem to be anywhere around here that sells breadfruit, and the one store that sells plantains only has them once in a while, among quite a few other things) and by the fact that half the recipes that look good say that they have to be served immediately or else they get ruined somehow, and I really need stuff that can make leftovers. Also, I don't want to turn on the oven when it's hot out.

Our wings are not tired.

Jesse, I love those snapshots of your dad's life (and yours); thanks for sharing.

Our wings are not tired.

It is so good to hear you have that extended support system, Jesse.

OK, I give up on Caribbean food for now. Too many things that either require ingredients I can't get or have to be cooked in the oven.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Love that, Jesse.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Caribs (us, not the Indians) use ovens 12 months of the year. I've never quite understood "light summer food". I'd have hot breakfast lunch and dinner all year round in the tropics if I could.

Thank you, Amy. No reason I needed that info...

And Jesse, that dessert thing is ADORABLE.

I'm fine with eating hot food, or cooking it on the stove. It's just that my air conditioner is really not that strong, and turning on the oven raises the temperature of the whole apartment. I'll use the oven if it's a cool-ish day when I can open the windows and turn on the fans and be reasonably comfortable, but it doesn't look like we're going to have any of those days for a while.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I thought you guys would appreciate that.

My apartment is super hot. It's barely cool now, and it's 60 degrees out and I've had all the windows open all day.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

This morning after he'd eaten his fill and I'd completed my walk, the one friendly alley cat (I shall name him Thomas O'Malley) hopped up on the steps next to me and meowed until I started petting him. One of the restaurant guys on my block says he's been living in the alley since he was a kitten, but he was clearly socialized with people early on if he wants affection as well as food/water.
