Natter 72: We Were Unprepared for This
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I hear tell fancy-schmancy hotels will send up a lot of things without charge, including utensils, that is if you don't mind tipping the deliverer.
Sox, I read that whole thread and added my mite of opinion at the end. Sounds like the Worldcon is going to cancel the showing entirely, which I think is a shame, because it's clearly what they call a Teachable Moment.
An elementary school clerk talked down a school shooter. Ms. Tuff is a hero.
The school is in my county, so I've had wall-to-wall coverage. There's now a debate about whether the schools need more resource operators, but this event indicates that schools need more clerk/bookkeepers.
DD has suddenly started being more sociable, chatty, amiable, wearing work shirts, offering to do other peoples tasks, and being communicative. Found out yesterday evening that she's on the ED's shit list (finally) so it looks like this a desperate attempt to mend fences and put on a good face.
Works for me, as I'm her newest direct coworker with plans for the holidays coming up.
Now to backread.
It is possible that I have revealed the depths of my nerdery to my new work team by going on a diatribe against Ant-Man.
I am not a soda drinker. I tend to drink coffee, tea, water, or wine. And the first and the last are tied closely to time of day.
As for SMH, my brain parsed it as "suck my ...??"
I think whatever-is-good-enough-for-today is totally going to need to be your mantra, Burrell. Definitely make me-time part of that.
Ah yes! In that vein, I have managed to take sister to the doctor, go to work, and finish one of my syllabi. The other will need to get done tomorrow or tonight. And now I'll go buy hair dye.
for MONTHS I thought SMH was "so much hate."
I just had a conversation Monday about this, and one friend thought that, too! SMDH.
I also remember Dana's Cheesecake Factory trauma, and as a child (and still sometimes) loved cream soda best for a special treat.
I went to look at a couple assisted living places with my mother, and they were both really nice, and one seemed perfect for my father, but in no way could they afford assisted living, since Medicaid doesn't cover it. It has to be a nursing home for Medicaid. And he doesn't actually need a nursing home.
Aspertame and diet sodas are gross. My go-to sodas are Dr. Pepper and Ginger Ale. With Root Beer and Cherry Cola a close second, but those are too sweet to be more than an indulgence. Iced cold Root Beer is good, too.
That school clerk was the BOSS. Glad there was a happy ending there, for once.
Although that article made me mad, as any article about school shootings does, when they basically liken a school shooting to a rampant epidemic. They're (school shootings) horrible, they're wrong and to be avoided, yes, and one is too many. But the fear mongering I see in the reporting that makes it seem like dozens are happening in every state every month for the past three decades (hyperbole in reaction to a hyperbole) raises my hackles. I might be wrong and hypocritical, what with my belief that of course once is too many times. I just despise the press's bent on making it seem like every school everywhere is having to deal with gun-toting maniacs on a regular basis.
I drink very, very little carbonated beverages. One sip has me burping like...a burping thing that burps. My beverages of choice are tea, water, flavored water, and whiskey. Occasionally leamonade.
I have already had a shot of whiskey tonight. Before 5pm. Eeep.
I did it! I queued up Good Stuff all the way through the weekend! Now I just hope the queue works.
