Natter 72: We Were Unprepared for This
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Part of my no-sleeveless-yes-bare-legs position is probably due to my persistent unreliability in getting my underarms well-shaven. I try but, well, for one thing I can't really see what I'm doing. At least with my legs I can see if they are all stubbly.
Oh yeah, I also prefer not to shave my armpits that often.
I have very scarred shins. I wear mid-calf skirts in the office the summer and haven't owned hosed or tights since the last century. I wear shorts out of the office. Suck it, people who find my shins icky.
I'll wear tank tops with a shirt over them at the office, and I'll take off the overshirt if I'm at my desk. The shirt goes back on if I need to step away. Too damned hot otherwise.
And this past week I have been very tempted to wear skirts that would offer a glimpse of my bruised knee so I could casually mention that I banged it up during a race.
I would do that, but then no one would ask.
Polar opposite. I maybe shave my legs twice a year. Yes, they are exposed every single day, but my hair is so light and sparse you really don't notice, or if they do, screw em. The underarms every single day! First I am very often sleeveless, and hot hot hot all the time. It seems to help with the sweating. (Maybe hott sometimes, but not as often as hot)
My office is generally too cold for me. AC in the summer and drafts in the winter.
I don't have enough hair on my pits or legs to be worth shaving, so that's not what it was about.
LA for 12 years now, and I've never had an office environment in which bare legs wouldn't make me cold anyway. But being barelegged at work makes me feel like too much opportunity for scrutiny.
Also, I love tights! I get as many compliments on them as any other piece of clothing I wear. They're so fun.
The only thing I really hide is the portacath. I don't want any assumptions, correct or no.
I love tights in the winter! When they keep my legs warm while wearing a skirt! Otherwise, they're a pain in the ass, sometimes literally.
I look back at the years I worked at Kensington and I feel really lucky. For a while there in the '90s I would go to work on Fridays in overalls. And I was very often barefoot in the office, or in sock feet. It was not very corporate, which I loved.
I love the look of tights, but other than on vacation elsewhere I can't imagine wearing them.
I'd been debating highway vs not for the trip to NY. It is a whole lot longer ride, 22 vs 30 driving hours. Then this morning's news about Tracy Morgan reminded me why I hate highway driving. Yes, there are accidents on the side roads, but not as often or as dramatic as the highway debacles.
Oh, I saw that! They said he was in intensive care, and one other passenger had died.
That is a lot of time difference, but if it is a more enjoyable and less stressful drive, maybe worth it.
I like tights fine when they fit, and when I can put them on without sticking a thumb through them and snagging a nail, and when my legs aren't damp from the shower when I try to put them on. Getting all three of those to happen at once is not so easy. And it probably needs to be not too warm out.
Come to think of it, however, most of my skirts probably are mid-calf or longer. Just a few knee-length.
Avoiding stress seems to be a major theme in my life right now. And driving scenic routes seems to be a big help there.
Apparently a trucker was snoozing at the wheel and woke not quite in time to avoid smashing into traffic that had slowed. Sounds like the vehicle Tracy was in was caught between two. Some people like the late night driving, but the fast driving big rigs are kinda scary to me.
