Occasionally I’m callous and strange

"Is that Kate swinging?" "Yes, that is her"
or "Yes, she is the one swinging"

Pretty darned sure "that is she" is incorrect, but I can't explain why except that it sounds and feels utterly wrong. Something to do with "she" at the end of a sentence being an implied ellipse but the verb is already present ahead of it in the sentence?

"Is this Erin?"
"Yes, speaking" or "Yes, that's me"
It's like fingernails on a chalkboard every time i hear someone answer the phone and refer to himself or herself in the third person.

edited to correct punctuation

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

wrt #yesallwomen, so sorry if that link on fb was triggery, i tried to include a warning about how upsetting I found it (yet I still appreciated reading it. Just was glad I hadn't eaten recently because i really did almost throw up.)

Ya know, it really is emotionally exhausting and terrifying to even broach the subject. I posted something, then deleted, then decided "fuck it, this is important to me, and people better not be jerks. Anyone who exposes themself as a jerk will be unfriended and their remarks deleted." Pretty sure I almost deleted all those remarks but left them up because no one was being rude, just...proving the point. And then I didn't know whether to applaud stompy Matt for jumping in and trying to edumacate middle school friend Mike or get all irritated that the situation had to be explained *by a man* for it to sink in. Either way, I was hugely relieved when it calmed down and glad i unfriended certain argumentative mansplainers months ago.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

"That is she" is grammatically correct but sounds wrong and old-fashioned to our ears.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Intransitive verbs, is that the rub?

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm watching season one of Longmire. Robert Taylor has a bit of a Harrison Ford thing going on.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Why is it correct for me to refer to myself in the third person? What's so special about "to be"?

James McAvoy. Just really.

Exactly.

FASSBENDER.

Without a doubt.

If y'all need to get me to stop cockblocking, get me the Chris Evans and you're all set.

Wait, why do I think I have a copy of Snowpiercer around here somewhere? My evening might just have changed from travelling down memory lane (currently Madonna's playground) on my rarely used iPod.

Because books.

Isn't that one of those things you figure out by putting it in a different order, sort of like Ginger said?

That is she = She is [the one swinging or whatever], not Her is...

Oops. Typo.

Ahhh. No wonder I don't get it then.

Robert Taylor has a bit of a Harrison Ford thing going on.

Indeed.

Thrive to spite them

I didn't go to the comic book shop today but maybe tomorrow or Monday after work I'll take a run up there.

I met with the therapist lady. It was semi productive. She told me about a program I didn't know about, but it's an intensive outpatient thing where I'd have to take short term disabilty from work to do it. Not sure that's do-able. Oh and 3 page list of shrinks to call to see if any of them are taking patients.

And then Will and I got some flowers at Lowe's for the front of the house and I saw a hummingbird today fly away so I'm going to get a feeder.
