Excellent daughters, Steph & shrift.
I don't remember what age the boys were as it was a height of laundry equipment decision. And they were tall! But stinky boy clothes was a major deciding factor.
Our climate does not allow for wearing clothes multiple times. MIL changes at least the pillow slips, and usually the sheets daily. When she was in the hospital I brought her a package of fancy pillow slips and she was delighted. Likely the only time I got a gift right for her!
shrift's on a horse!
I'm going to put my finger shoes on and go running RIGHT NOW.
It occurs to me that another reason I have bunches of laundry for a single person is that I am super prone to spilling things on myself (including but not limited to soup, salad dressing, and coffee) and therefore cannot wear most things more than once without laundering.
I didn't do laundry until university, and to date have maybe ruined 4 things.
Fuck, I didn't even see my first washing machine until, what, 12?
I was helping out with the laundry by 8 and doing my own by 10.
Aeryn is on a rhyming jag and is now bouncing on the couch chanting "shit! shit! shit! shit!"
sounds like she is one of us, really.
BTW, I think about your daughter almost daily. We are doing a rewatch of "Farscape."
My kids don't usually do the laundry (when we have a machine that is) but they help with folding and putting it away. They set and clear the table, put food away, wash dishes, and even cook occasionally. They like to feed the cat and clean her litter box, so that's helpful. And they can be relied on to take out the garbage. But basically I let them run fallow.
I didn't do laundry until I was married. My jobs were setting the table, very minimal cooking like peeling potatoes or such, and washing woodwork. We figured out at some point that the washing woodwork was just mom's way of getting us from underfoot. Oh yeah, there was indeed the shoveling of snow. I got out of raking leaves due to allergies.
I planted 48 portulaca and a coreopsis. I think I earned my mead.
Dana, I'm sorry you're having house selling problems.
