I'm so sorry, but if it makes you feel any better, my fun-time-Buffy party night involved watching a robot throw Spike through a window, so if you want to trade... no wait, I wouldn't give up that memory for anything.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Would it help if one of the search and rescue people talked with someone at the school?

There was a Facebook fail this morning. On my news feed right under the breaking news about the shooter at the FedEx facility, the "Related" was headlined: "Fail Of The Week: How To Lose Your Job At FedEx Instantly!" It was for a YouTube video of a driver chasing a truck that was rolling away.

(The shooting involved an employee who arrived heavily armed and started shooting. Six people were shot and three are in critical condition. The shooter was found dead a few hours later.)

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Never realized how weird it feels, looking for a sympathy/condolence card. Especially when its going to your aunt. All the cards at the supermarket seem to have variations on the same phrasing, and they're all so...removed. The funeral is Thursday in CT, but we're not going.

Can you talk to the counselor who you said really gets CJ, and see if there's any way to appeal it based on his ADHD?

She is out on medical leave this week, unfortunately.

As I was writing this I got a call from his fill in counselor. The program was so competitive that no one with a GPA below 3.0 was accepted. No exceptions.

Gah this sucks.

Our wings are not tired.

Ginger, gold star for you! No one deserves IE.

Indeed.

Sheryl sometimes a 'no occasion' card fits better than the ones specific to the event.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

That's too bad, Suzi.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

My cousin, who's a microbiologist, routinely sends me articles about fecal transplants being used as a cure for C. diff infections. (If you're friends with me on FB, you may see them from time to time.) I love her. (I think poo transplants are brilliant, and apparently they work like goddamn magic.)

I would donate my poo to any of you who needed healthy intestinal bacteria to save your life. TOTALLY.

And in less gross news, check out this commercial for spaying/neutering your pets. It is AWESOME: [link]

Fecal transplants? I've never heard of that!

Fecal transplants? I've never heard of that!

A C. diff (the bacterium Clostridium difficile) infection is a massive hostile takeover of your gut -- the C. diff overtakes all of your necessary good bacteria, and it's pretty bad. And it's becoming harder and harder to successfully treat.

The idea behind a fecal transplant is that because the donor has normal intestinal flora, the donor poo is the vehicle to get those good bacteria into the patient's gut, where they can multiply and get everything back to normal. And, for real, fecal transplants have been almost miraculous in how quickly and how completely they've eradicated long-term C. diff infections. It's amazing, and amazingly simple when you think about it.

Which reminds me that I need to bottle my kombucha.

Steph, that commercial is fabulous. If givethemten.org was around here, I'd promote the hell out of them.
