Kaylee: Can I? Zoe: Sure. He's out, though. Kaylee: He did this for me, once.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Whoa! Jesse, say hello to the lions. (Of course they have lions in the airport, right?)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Seriously, I would have said the Johannesburg airport looked like a parody if it weren't real. Half the stores are called things like Out of Africa, there are "African proverbs" on the walls, the song I heard playing was about Nelson Mandela, there are statues of giraffes and I'm sure also elephants, etc.

Shit, I really just want to lie in bed now, but what I should do is shower and go to the office.

What time is it there? You must be at least 6 hours ahead of here, right? If you lie in bed just a little longer, it will be quitting time, right?

Yep -- 6 hours ahead, so it's just lunch time! I said I'd go by the office at 3. If nothing else, it might help me coordinate some dinner!

"You can't put a price on the joy of not giving a shit." -Zenkitty

Great start to the day. Got up on time and out the door only to get on the bus to find my transit card has been deactivated & is on the "hot list" which means it's been reported as stolen. Which I never did when I actually lost my wallet in February.

I had to scrounge in my wallet for enough change, because the card worked just fine last night. Now I'm all anxious and angry.

Ugh, shrift -- that cannot be right.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I missed the stick-shift convo!

I learned stick by driving tractors and what-not when I was around 10. So I was driving stick shift cars for about 8 years before I first stalled one starting out. Because of my tractor experience, when I first started driving stick shift cars I made the opposite mistake that most new stick drivers make: I'd give the engine too much gas and take too long letting up the clutch. I'd also use a lot of force shifting gears because many tractors were hard to shift.

eta: accidentally posted too soon!

My high school girlfriend noticed I was using too much force to shift, so she told me what her dad told her: Move the shifter like you're holding a guy's cock.

The first stick car I owned was my '00 Focus. I loved driving stick except when I'd get stuck in bad traffic jams--my leg would get pretty tired after a few hours of stop-and-go driving. So my current Focus has an automatic--partially because of the traffic jam issues and partially because new automatics get better mileage than a manual transmission.

I also drove a van with a three-on-the-tree manual transmission at a job when I was in high school. It was fun except when it got stuck in third gear and I had to drive it back that way.
