Kat, that's kinda hilarious and fascinating.
My parents have become gadget geeks. My dad has an iPhone, his macbook pro, the air, nanos, my mom an iPad and now she has a iPad mini. And they have cable.
Everything of mine is at least 5 years old. And I'm still on dsl because I can't figure out an upgrade in which a phone line and internet combined (not necessarily a package, just total monthly) stay under my current $95 total (of which $30 is all the various taxes and fees, so I get all excited about advertised upgrades at $15 more...but those are without the fees,) and I'm not increasing costs. Plus $80/yr (for which I have a balance that will now cover a year and a half, but I have to add $80/yr to keep the rate) for a cell service I don't use all of the minutes on but I won't go strictly to cell because the reception is lousy in our houses and location and I rarely use the phone outside the house. Every time I do the research, I lose a little bit more of my mind.
...I'm just fucking cheap and disinclined to fix it until it breaks. Irrevocably. And this is all their fault and now they've turned into ALIENS!
Thank you, Steph. One more q: does "half-life" in medicine mean "half is gone in X time and the other half is gone in X more time" or is it the same as half-life in physics? I expect the former but then I don't know why they don't just call it the "life" at X2.
If a drug's half-life is, say, 3 hours, 1/2 the dose is gone in 3 hours, and then half of what's left (so, 1/4 of the original dose) is gone in another 3 hours (meaning 3/4 has cleared in 2 half-lives, or 6 hours), etc.
Is that a physics half-life? I was (am) a dummy when it comes to physics.
That is a physics half-life. Why does it work like that? I don't understand why it works like that in physics, either. To me it indicates the molecules are talking to each other. "Okay, me and Jorge are outta here. That's half of us gone. The rest of youse guyz, you got 3 hours to clear exactly half of youse outta here. Draw straws or something. Talk amongst yerselves."
I've been in a crowd at open mic night that exited the building in exactly that manner.
The cancellation of debt document says 2013.
But, if you don't get the money until 2014, shouldn't it count as 2014 income? Taxes are confusing.
Exponential decay! It's like compound interest in reverse.
Explain to me how the particles know there's half of them left and they should slow down decay by half! There's a subatomic messaging service. It's weird, dammit.
It's just a simplified way of describing the rate of decay. You can also do it with one of those equations that have a lot of squiggles in them.
