Tonight I found out that my new team likes to party. I finally begged off after wine, several beers, and four shots. And then there was a downpour, so I took the subway back to my hotel. And then bought plane tickets to Maui. Not because I was drunk, but because I'd been planning on doing that since earlier this afternoon when the price dropped below $750.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Nice day, shrift!

I'm pretty sure I made plans to go out drinking in Houston with the Texas librarian, even though neither of us put it quitr like that.

It's going to be an interesting cultural change at work, that's for sure.

Also, if he looks older than 47, it might not be from the porn, but from his self admitted crystal meth use (according to review of his autobiography).

Also (though I haven't looked for photos of him from his porn days, so I could be wrong here), I assume he engaged in some competitive tanning while he was doing porn, and years of tanning will age a person prematurely.

Just like crystal meth.

TOTALLY unrelatedly, I did a trial run on making my own wedding bouquet: [link] Pretty easy, you guys! And I don't think I have (terribly) low standards, or anything. Now it's cooling its heels in a vase in the fridge overnight, to see if/how long it will last into tomorrow, so I can gauge whether a homemade bouquet will last overnight and into the following day/ceremony time.

So I have a job interview over breakfast tomorrow. And next Friday I have another interview, which should be interesting, because it's with the City of SF, and it's a panel, and I'm not entirely sure I want to work there. But then I'm not entirely sure I want to work.

Although to be fair it's been kind of fun working this week, since I don't have any responsibility, I'm just grinding through the changes to the report.

I should probably go to bed, except I just bought the new Temeraire novel. Eeeps. (I'm still excited even though I was rather disappointed by the last two...)

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Pretty bouquet, Teppy!

Yeah, I was unaware of the meth use, but I recall a lot of poolside photography that probably required hours filming in the sun as well as the general tan maintenance beforehand.

Pretty, Steph! I like the wee snail.

That's for Tim's mom. She loved the outdoors -- worked for the Park District, took the family camping every weekend basically from May through early October, built a house in the woods. And inside their house, she collected little critters -- little plastic animals (bugs, lizards, frogs, etc.) that she perched in plant pots, on picture frames -- everywhere. She was all about the critters.

So I thought a good way to honor her memory and have her at the wedding in spirit was to incorporate a critter into my bouquet and Tim's boutonniere. The snail happened to work perfectly because it's actually on a stick, so I could just wrap it in with the flower stems.

Tim hasn't picked out his critter yet, though he's leaning toward a blue tree frog.
