I've been out of the abbey two days, I've beaten a lawman senseless, I've fallen in with criminals. I watched the captain shoot the man I swore to protect. And I'm not even sure if I think he was wrong.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Good lord, msbelle. That's way too much for one day. Especially a Saturday.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

After trying on fifty gazillion bras, I got two, as they were having a buy one get the second for 60% off. I saw myself naked in the dressing room mirror, had the usual "Oh my god, I am hideous, fat and old and I can't believe Jason would ever want to touch me" reaction, but unlike usually, I managed to cool myself out. So I am kinda proud of myself.

I was so proud of myself I treated myself to a cardigan and a cool shirt with birdies on it.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Ugh, msbelle. Are you off the clock (well, the work bits, anyway) tomorrow?

My nurse came a day early because I was in so much pain. Bless her.

I'm going to use Uber to get home from the procedure Monday (well, and to--I've sworn off taxis for the nonce), and I hope they consider having a car come for me better than a taxi.

Their expectations are unreasonable.

More hellos and and thank yous and glad to be back a little (not glad a little, back a little--I'm only in Natter for the nonce) to the new old people.

Nice numbers, -t!

I've started doing a million things for my insomnia--I got a new mattress, get offline and turn off the screen two hours before I try and sleep, etc. My latest thing is hypnosis/meditation tapes. My current fave is Mindifi, which is pretty effective, although my mind has started wandering like a mo fo.

Anyone else use these? Do you have any recommendations for good programs for calming, getting to sleep, getting back to sleep, etc? And in back of it I have either rain or sea sounds. So far, due to audio considerations so it doesn't overpower the words, I'm using some quieter pitched rain sounds. So my bedroom always sounds like water.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Excellent, Scrappy!

I'm pretty sure water sounds would make me have to pee, to the detriment of my sleeping.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

get offline and turn off the screen two hours before I try and sleep

I'm trying that, too, and I think it's kinda-sorta working?

The other non-medication thing I've been trying for insomnia is focusing on one image in my brain while I'm trying to fall asleep. It's the image of the swoopy golden bar of light that signifies Will is doing his ~empath~ thing on Hannibal episodes, but it's strangely soothing and relaxing. [link]

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I heard some good things about magnesium supplements for insomnia, but they haven't really been helping me a whole lot.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I use a disc that I got from a fancy schmancy hotel I was staying at. It has a physical relaxation section then a mental one then just music. It's this guy: [link] but I don't see any links to audio stuff from him.

I really do need to improve my sleep hygiene stuff, because I am terrible about that.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Here. Have some silly. [link]

If I don't pee during the night, the water ends up in my face, so I go with it. It's a remarkable difference. My face is swollen enough to ache lightly.

I heard some good things about magnesium supplements for insomnia, but they haven't really been helping me a whole lot.

Teppy, you use magnesium right? And it helps you? I'm down to Mg as my only supplement. I can't tell if it makes a difference, but I figure it's healthy anyway, right?

I'm trying that, too, and I think it's kinda-sorta working?

I certainly have a harder time falling asleep if I don't do it, but it means if I want to be in bed by 10, no prime time TV for me anymore.

I've also installed screen "dimmers" on my most used devices--they shift the colour temperature towards red based on the solar cycle, so I use them a little bit longer. f.lux on OS X, and EasyEyez on Android.

Problem is--the things I most want to do when I wake up or am trying to sleep are art-related, and most of that is digital for me these days. But who knows what will turn out if I tried doing that on a red-tinted screen?

It's this guy: [link] but I don't see any links to audio stuff from him.

He does have an app--the full version is expensive at $17/year. but I might grab "Lite" and see.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

It is good to see you back, ita, although I'm sorry things aren't better for you.

I made the beet pesto: it is hella pink, and pretty tasty. The recipe I used makes a LOT, so I put a bunch in the freezer.
