I think you could say "the dinner is done" meaning that it is ready to eat, and the dinner is finished, meaning you are done eating and the people are leaving.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.
Nobody ever corrected my grammar. Of course, I grew up with people who would say things like "broughten", so, maybe they thought I talked funny and just didn't mention it.

meara, I love that sweater and it would be the perfect thing for me, but I too am worried about the quality. Between the pilling and the people complaining about the sizing and the zipper not working properly... I wonder if one can find that sort of thing elsewhere? (Here's my Google shopping result on asymmetrical sweater.)
I had an assymetrical wool sweater from Kuhl's for several years (until I had a brain fart and threw it in the washing machine), really loved it.
