I've been told to shift toward higher protein, lower carb. It does keep me from binge snacking.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I can't keep up, though. Every day something new is bad for you. I figure if I eat everything in moderation, I'm sort of covering my bases.
Yep. Plus, no way in hell am I giving up cheese or bacon.
I just read a disturbing article that claims a diet moderate to high in protein in middle age, esp animal-based protein, raises your risk of cancer to the same degree that smoking does.
Less sensational take on the research: [link]
Also, it's based on a recall study. Never trust a recall study. Even the authors note:
There are some limitations to our study, which should be acknowledged. First, the use of a single 24 hr dietary recall followed by up to 18 years of mortality assessment has the potential of misclassifying dietary practice if the 24 hr period was not representative of a participant's normal day.
I think I've done a pretty good job about decreasing my meat intake. I think my dairy intake also is relatively low, aside from my Cheese Issue. The Issue being that it makes everything more delicious.
Ooh, I think I'll roast a beet tonight and top it with goat cheese.
Thank goodness for Ginger's clear-headedness.
We have sun. H goes in for his final x-ray and signoff from his surgeon this afternoon, and then he wants to make a break for it. The tulip fields are still underwater, but we're going out to the island and see if the snow geese are still there--probably not. They don't stay long in their annual trek. And then there will be dinner. Actually, the whole afternoon is just dallying till dinner. The Chinese restaurant in Oak Harbor has a Mongolian grill. I like picking exactly what goes into my food and choosing the sauces. H just likes locusting the buffet. Although he's a much diminished locust from days of yesteryear, bless him.
If we're lucky, it'll be clear enough to see both Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainier, at the same time.

Wow, that seems so slim.
But the thing I saw on facebook with the two boxes, one with cigarettes, and one with hotdogs (?) was so compelling!
My appt with my foot doc is less than an hour away and all of a sudden I'm all nervous about it. I know it is healing and I know that the worst case senario is that I spend more time in the boot and with crutches, but the nerves are still setting in.
Deep breaths, Suzi!
Ginger beat me to it - a large number of nutritional conclusion are based on limited or self reported studies
No way am I cutting back to "low to moderate" amounts of protein. After so many years of obsessing over every morsel, I'm kinda sick of the whole good/bad food deal. And thanks, Ginger, for pointing out how limited the study was.
msbelle, having that agency disappear must be like the rug getting yanked out from under you. Very glad that it will pose no actual threat to your family, but how unsettling. Does mac know? Would it bother him?
We're up to Winter Storm Vulcan now. Does that really mean we've had 22 named winter storms this season? Holy crow.
