I had the last one for almost decade until I broke it in January (thermal issue- I'd just washed it next door and apparently setting it on the railing in 10°f was too much of a differential.) This one I cracked on another dish in the sink. I may go for stainless if I break this one because this is ridiculous, but that isn't available at Target at 8 on a Sunday.

Stainless is not super easy to find. I was lucky to come across mine at CC's right away, I have not seen many others like it since.
My coworker's elderly mom is in the hospital and it's looking like this might be the end. I would really like to do something nice for this coworker, but I don't live anywhere near her and I wouldn't feel right going to see her at the hospital -- we're not that close. Does anyone have any good ideas? Is this an appropriate time to send flowers or a card, or would that be weird (or better saved for the funeral)?
Kate, can you send a food type gift to the house? Either from a local company or from some place like Harry and David.
Or send her a Starbucks or Dunkin giftcard and a note asking if there's anything you can do to help out while she's away from school, since you don't leave near her?
Coffee or easy food gift cards are good. And, really, everyone wants to help around the funeral but the hardest time to remember to take care of yourself and eat or even just take ten minutes away and survive on coffee is before that, in my experience.
mmmm, sushi good.

What Consuela said, plus it was awesome to see Consuela.
She will also need support in the weeks after the funeral and memorial. There is some much activity around death but the really hard part for me came in the weeks and months after when things return to normal.
The train I'm on (a big double-decker diesel train) has been stopped for 20 minutes because someone is on top of it.
Seriously. We even heard the person running over the top of our car.
