Got it in one.
He was uncomfortable! And he has some cognitive impairment such that he kept forgetting why he was undergoing such an unpleasant experience. But they gave him wax to cover the sore spots, and he had liquid painkillers, and lots of shakes. I figured he was okay.
Turns out sometime during the night he managed to get the whole wire assembly attached to his dentures out of his mouth. Ate cold cereal for breakfast! I, foolishly, didn't even notice, and it wasn't until we got to he oral surgeon that all was revealed.
I was pretty close to tearing my hair out.
So the surgeon gave up on wires, loaded him up with elastic, and reminded him (again) that he has to let the bone heal, and this is the only way. I'm... not optimistic. But I don't think we have any options.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I am currently celebrating with Soy Skinny Mocha at Starbucks before heading to the gym where I think I will not avail myself of the birthday amenity of free towel service but will continue celebrating with a Barre class. I've been meaning to try this class and today seems like a good day for it.
