My mother's been having something like the same kind of problem, Sox, and it makes me want to pull out the napalm.

Seriously. My doctor came in prepared to have the crazy-patient talk with me. I'd typed out, with dates, quick summaries of every conversation I've had with the office staff since November, as well as the rest of everything that's been going on. By the time I was done, she was apologizing and saying "this needs to end. This is awful. Thank you so much for sticking with us."
yeah, not so much with that last part. Because no. But the rest? Yes, napalm. It's insane. Who does this?
My mother found out that her GP had raised a red flag on her surgery -- because the surgeon mentioned it to her.
WTF.
wow
I am now thankful for the office staff at my doctor's office. I may not always think of them as uberhelpful, but there is some level of rational behavior behind thier actions.
Ai yai yai. Better luck moving forward!
Yikes, Sox! That's awful. I'm so sorry, and I'm glad your doctor sees that it's wrong and was able to help.
Dana, you rule the shopping world.
And brenda, thanks for the Rita Moreno link, but I admit the language you used made me worried that she'd died! Which she hasn't.
This subject has been on my mind lately.
I know doctors and staff have to deal with neurotic and delusional people sometimes.
But this adversarial relationship with patients is so shitty. And it does happen a lot.
My doctor is great, but his staff is SO BAD. I'm sure they have a heavy workload, but they are downright hostile to the patients. Part of that is that the practice just got absorbed into one of those uber-networks, so I have no doubt the staff (including doctors) now have new metrics and goals and whatnot, none of which have anything to do with actually delivering patient care.
Calling for a prescription refill is like being hazed. t edit And I'm not trying to get painkillers or Ritalin or anything. Just a goddamn inhaler so I can breathe. I can't even imagine what kind of hoops they make patients who need painkillers jump through.
