"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Question, since it has been awhile since I've had to deal with this (and particularly since I'm a renter).

A leak has developed in the ceiling of our dining room. I put down towels to wipe up most of the moisture and I laid them there to catch the drops (coming about once a second). But I don't think this patchwork "fix" will work overnight.

I notified the manager about the leak, and she is calling the HOA person (I live in a duplex). She thinks she should hear tomorrow morning. I would have thought she would get a 24-hour person to come figure this situation out. See, a crew was here on Mon & Tues to repair the balcony, but they didn't finish. I believe that's where the leak is coming from (since it is raining).

What do you think I should do:

a) buy a Tarp or two from Lowe's with duct tape, and cover the balcony with the tarp?

b) buy a bucket to catch the rainwater inside with some towels around it?

I also need some advice about my plane ticket tomorrow. I am supposed to leave the house at 9 or so to make my flight. Should I:

1) push the flight back a few hours?

2) reschedule for Saturday?

3) Leave it as is

The flight is only 90 minutes and there are about 8 flights from here to there a day, so changing the flight (if I need to) shouldn't be a scheduling nightmare. Pricewise...who knows?

Tarp AND bucket, save receipts, call back HOA, read riot act, make sure they have keys, move or cover any and everything in the room affected. Proceed with flight. Do you have someone you can trust to come over and check on things?

So today, I got to work a little after 7, with plans to take a long lunch to do some shopping the neighborhood over. Did that happen? No. Was I at work until freaking FIVE, which is way past when I normally am? YES.

I have been telling my coworkers for YEARS that starting/getting into the thick of big projects between TG and NYrs is futile and frustrating. Save that time period for all the little independent one-offs because you are never going to be able to get together all the people necessary, folks are trying to bring ongoing stuff to a good stopping point before they leave, no one able is to just drop everything to deal. Do the ever listen? NO. Swear to god, I get into mgmt, this will be my rule. Save December for cleanup and sorting things out in prep for post NYrs projects. Jesus.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

That's a pretty significant leak. What's the weather prediction?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

If the HOA or whoever can get into your place, I would just protect all my stuff and get on the flight. Riot act as needed.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Oh le n, what a pain. I hope it gets fixed quick so you don't have to stress about the flight.

These Los Angeles winters are just too much for me, that's why we're going to Florida in a week.

ND made me laugh.

I thought Brian Boitano wasn't "officially" out so much as he never was closeted. Which is how I feel about a lot of famous people, like Jodie Foster. I thought she had been out since college.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, I think it must not have been official, because I had the same reaction as bon when they said there were two out gay people in the delegation, and also Brian Boitano.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Thank you for sympathies and suggestions all! I bought the "Dexter special" at Lowe's:

2 tarps, duct tape, towels, a bucket, gloves and bricks. I put down the new towels and have laid out the tarps to tape them together.

That's a pretty significant leak. What's the weather prediction?

Rain tonight, then sunny for the next 7 days or so.

The drip has slowed for now, but I am not sure what it will do when the rain start again (at least a drizzle is expected).

hip deep in pie

Tonight I found part of a mouse in my hallway. Head, shoulders and one leg, for the curious. I have no idea where the rest is. Ugh.

Sue, Thank you kitties?

At least they're catching them, I guess. They've gotten lots of praise. Well Clio has, because I'm pretty sure she's the hunter. But she still won't give up the location of the rest of the mouse.

And, I've checked my bed already.
